Tips for Your Copywriter Job Search
Tailor your portfolio to the industry
Hiring managers scan portfolios fast, so lead with samples that match their industry. If you're applying to a SaaS company, front-load landing pages and email sequences. Agency roles want campaign breadth. Irrelevant samples buried first cost you the callback.
Quantify results in your resume bullets
Copywriters who cite outcomes get more interviews than those who list tasks. Pull open-rate lifts, conversion improvements, or revenue tied to campaigns you wrote. Even directional results, such as a subject line test that beat the control, are worth noting.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists copywriter openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by copy specialization, not just title
Many openings are posted as 'copywriter' but actually want a specific type, such as email, SEO, or conversion copy. Read the job description for the dominant channel before applying so your cover letter and samples speak directly to what they need.
Send a targeted writing sample with every application
A short spec piece written for the company's actual product or audience outperforms a generic portfolio link. One paragraph rewriting their current homepage headline shows more than ten unrelated samples and signals you've already done the thinking.
Negotiate with a deliverable breakdown, not a number
When an offer comes in below your target, anchor the counter to scope rather than preference. Break down the workload, such as long-form content, email cadences, and ad copy, and explain what that output typically commands. It reframes the conversation around value.
Copywriter Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most copywriters?
The companies hiring the most copywriters right now include Vail Resorts, Creatunity, and Amazon, with the largest share of openings in New York, California, and Texas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Demand is especially high in e-commerce, SaaS, and healthcare verticals.
How many copywriter jobs are remote?
About 65% of copywriter openings are fully remote or hybrid as of August 2026, making it one of the more location-flexible roles in marketing. UX writing, email copywriting, and content strategy positions tend to carry the highest share of remote arrangements compared to in-studio or on-site creative roles.
How do you become a copywriter?
Start by building a portfolio of spec work across formats you want to be hired for, such as emails, ads, and landing pages, even if it's unpaid or self-initiated. Study direct response and brand voice fundamentals through published swipe files and reputable copywriting courses. Then apply for junior or contract roles, freelance projects, or agency internships to build real client experience and testimonials before moving into senior positions.
Can you get hired as a copywriter with no experience?
Yes, but your portfolio has to do the work your resume can't. Write spec campaigns for brands you know well, volunteer copy for nonprofits, or contribute to small publications to generate real samples. Hiring managers in content-heavy industries such as e-commerce and startups regularly hire junior copywriters based on portfolio quality alone, especially for email and social roles where volume matters more than credentials.
What does the copywriter interview process look like?
Most copywriter interviews include a portfolio review, a conversation about your writing process, and a paid or unpaid copy test. The test typically asks you to write a short ad, email, or landing page section under brief constraints so the team can assess how you think and how closely you follow direction. A final-round interview often involves presenting your test work and explaining your strategic choices to a creative director or marketing lead.
Where can I find and apply to copywriter jobs?
You can find and apply to copywriter jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your specialization and experience level, then apply directly to each one that fits.
