Development Manager Jobs in Austin: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development manager job in Austin?
Focus your search on Austin's software, fintech, and healthcare IT sectors, which concentrate along the Domain, downtown's Second Street District, and the Mueller development. Employers in these areas favor candidates who can lead cross-functional engineering teams and translate product strategy into delivery timelines. A background in agile delivery, a strong local professional network through Austin tech meetups, and demonstrated experience managing distributed teams gives candidates a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire development managers in Austin?
Companies currently hiring development managers in Austin include Amazon, RWE, and SHI International, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Austin's hiring pool includes enterprise tech firms, fast-growing SaaS startups headquartered in the Domain and East Austin, and regional healthcare and financial services companies expanding their engineering organizations.
Are there remote development manager jobs in Austin?
Yes, though availability depends on the employer, since development manager roles often require in-person team leadership and stakeholder collaboration. About 65% of development manager openings tied to Austin are remote or hybrid as of November 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common at Austin's larger enterprise software and fintech employers, where team oversight and sprint ceremonies can be partially distributed.
How can I get a development manager job in Austin with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Austin is moving up from a senior software engineer or technical lead role within a local startup or mid-size tech company, where smaller team structures mean engineers often step into informal leadership early. Austin's active startup scene in the Domain and East Austin regularly promotes from within, and lateral moves into associate or team lead positions at companies like mid-market SaaS firms can build the management portfolio that makes a full development manager application competitive.
Which industries hire the most development managers in Austin?
Austin development manager roles concentrate in Technology & Software, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of November 2026. Austin's position as a hub for semiconductor companies, cloud software firms, and expanding financial technology operations has made these sectors the primary drivers of local development manager demand.
