Development Manager Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a development manager job in Houston?
The strongest path is targeting Houston's dominant sectors: energy and oil and gas services, commercial real estate development, and healthcare construction tied to the Texas Medical Center. Employers in these industries value candidates who have managed large capital projects or cross-functional teams in a Houston or Gulf Coast context. Familiarity with local permitting processes and subcontractor networks also gives candidates a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire development managers in Houston?
Houston development manager roles are posted by Exail, EHRA Engineering, and The Friedkin and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. The hiring base is broad, ranging from major integrated energy companies and EPC contractors to healthcare systems, commercial developers, and technology firms with Houston operations.
Are there remote development manager jobs in Houston?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the type of work: software and product development management tends to be more remote-friendly, while construction and facilities development roles almost always require on-site presence. About 68% of development manager openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with most of those concentrated in the technology and business services sectors rather than energy or real estate.
How can I get a development manager job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Houston is moving up from a project coordinator or assistant project manager role within an energy services firm, EPC contractor, or commercial real estate developer. Local employers such as mid-size construction firms and hospital system capital projects teams regularly hire into junior development roles. Earning a PMP certification and gaining hands-on exposure to Houston's permitting and procurement processes accelerates the transition considerably.
Which industries hire the most development managers in Houston?
The sectors hiring the most development managers in Houston are Transportation & Logistics and Consulting & Professional Services, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Houston's concentration of energy infrastructure projects, major medical campus expansions, and a growing technology services corridor together sustain consistent demand across these fields.
