Building experience in corporate talent acquisition, ideally within Texas industries like energy, technology, or healthcare, is the most direct path.
How much do director of recruitings make in Texas?
Director of recruitings in Texas earn a median of about $136,500 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $83,200 for the lowest 10% to over $226,050 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.

Which Texas cities have the most director of recruiting jobs?
Austin, San Antonio, and Dallas have the most director of recruiting openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads because of its density of corporate headquarters and financial services employers, Houston follows with large energy companies and medical center institutions, and Austin's growth as a technology hub has driven steady demand from companies scaling their talent functions there.

The most realistic path is starting as a recruiter or talent acquisition specialist at a large Texas employer, then building toward a team lead or recruiting manager role before stepping into a director position. Large Texas health systems like HCA Houston Healthcare and University of Texas health institutions, as well as technology employers in Austin, run structured talent acquisition programs that bring in early-career HR professionals.
