Translate your APRA and ASD credentials
U.S. hiring managers may not recognise Australian frameworks like ASD Essential Eight or APRA CPS 234. Map these directly to NIST CSF or SOC 2 equivalents in your resume so the specialty occupation connection is immediately clear to both the employer and the consular officer.
Target companies with active LCA filing history
Search DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to find employers who have certified LCAs for Application Security Engineer or closely related SOC codes. These companies already understand E-3 sponsorship mechanics, which cuts weeks off your offer-to-visa timeline.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsoring employers
Searching broadly for security roles wastes time on employers who won't sponsor. Migrate Mate filters specifically for Application Security Engineer positions where employers have E-3 sponsorship history, so you're only applying where your visa status won't stall the process.
Clarify your degree field before the LCA
If your bachelor's is in IT, maths, or engineering rather than computer science or cybersecurity, document the coursework overlap in writing before your employer files the LCA. DOL evaluates whether the degree is in a directly related field, and a gap here can delay or complicate certification.
Negotiate LCA filing into your offer timeline
Your employer must file and receive a certified LCA from DOL before your consulate appointment can proceed. Build at least two weeks for this step into your start date negotiation. Employers unfamiliar with E-3 often underestimate this lead time and create avoidable delays.
Handle your filing end-to-end without a law firm
Many Application Security Engineers pay full immigration attorney rates for a straightforward E-3 filing. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage your LCA and visa paperwork from offer acceptance to consulate appointment, without the overhead of a traditional firm.
E-3 Visa Application Security Engineer: Frequently Asked Questions
Where can I find Application Security Engineer jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Application Security Engineer roles where employers have a demonstrated history of E-3 sponsorship, so you're not spending time on applications that will stall at the visa stage. Standard job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship history, which makes them an inefficient starting point for E-3 candidates.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Application Security Engineer role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes. Application Security Engineer positions require at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, cybersecurity, information systems, or a closely related field, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation standard. The role must theoretically and practically require that degree. Positions where any technical background qualifies, regardless of field, can create complications at the LCA stage.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Application Security Engineers?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so you can start the process as soon as you have a job offer. H-1B visa registration opens once a year in March, and selection is not guaranteed. For Australian professionals in application security, the E-3 is a direct path that bypasses the wait entirely. The core requirements, specialty occupation standard and prevailing wage compliance, are effectively the same.
Can I switch Application Security Engineer employers while on E-3 status?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA before you begin work with them. Your E-3 status is tied to a specific employer and role, not to your person. There is no portability mechanism like the one available under certain H-1B extensions. If you resign before the new LCA is certified, you'll need to either wait or depart and return on a new E-3 stamp.
