Frame your credentials for specialty occupation
Your degree must align directly with compliance work, not just management broadly. A background in law, accounting, finance, or risk management strengthens the specialty occupation argument. Generic business degrees can attract requests for evidence, so gather transcripts and credential evaluations before applying.
Target companies with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have filed LCAs for compliance roles. This confirms they understand the process and aren't encountering E-3 visa sponsorship for the first time during your offer negotiation.
Distinguish your role from general management
Compliance Program Managers sitting above a dedicated compliance function face more scrutiny than those embedded in regulatory, legal, or audit teams. During interviews, emphasize the specialized regulatory knowledge your role requires, not just the oversight or team management aspects.
Clarify the LCA timeline with your hiring manager
Your employer must file the Labor Condition Application with DOL before your visa application moves forward. Standard LCA certification takes around seven business days. Raise this early so HR doesn't treat it as a surprise step after an offer is signed.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for end-to-end support
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork. This keeps the process on track from offer acceptance through consulate appointment, reducing the risk of document errors that delay your start date.
Address dual intent carefully at your interview
The E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa, so consular officers will probe your intent to return to Australia. If you're also exploring long-term pathways, avoid raising that at the visa interview. Focus on your current U.S. role and employer relationship.
E-3 Visa Compliance Program Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Compliance Program Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Compliance Program Manager roles where employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Standard job boards don't filter by visa type, so you end up cold-qualifying employers one by one. Migrate Mate surfaces roles alongside employer sponsorship signals, saving you the back-and-forth before an offer is even on the table.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Compliance Program Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for E-3 purposes?
Yes, in most cases. The role must require a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field directly related to compliance, such as law, finance, accounting, or risk management. Roles framed around general program management without a field-specific degree requirement can face scrutiny. The job description your employer uses in the LCA filing matters significantly here.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Compliance Program Manager roles?
The E-3 has no annual cap and no lottery, so there's no risk of being selected out before you can start. H-1B visa registration is capped at 85,000 per year with a randomized selection process, meaning qualified candidates are routinely excluded through no fault of their own. For Australian compliance professionals, the E-3 provides a predictable path that the H-1B simply can't match.
Can I switch employers while on an E-3 as a Compliance Program Manager?
Yes, but you need a new LCA and visa for each employer. The E-3 is employer-specific, so you can't transfer it the way an H-1B can port under AC21. If you're already in the U.S. on an E-3, your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll typically need to attend a new consular appointment in Australia to get a visa stamp for the new role.
