Frame your degree field for specialty occupation
Consulting managers face more scrutiny than technical roles because the specialty occupation link isn't automatic. Map your degree field directly to your consulting domain in your CV and cover materials before applying.
Target firms with established LCA filing history
Large consulting firms and Big Four practices file LCAs routinely and have internal immigration teams. Mid-size boutiques may be willing but slower to act, so build in extra lead time when negotiating your start date.
Clarify the prevailing wage tier during offer negotiation
Your employer files the LCA against a DOL prevailing wage level tied to your job title and location. Ask HR which wage level they're filing at, since Level I or II can affect how your offer is positioned internally.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to manage LCA certification, DS-160 preparation, and consulate appointment logistics so your start date isn't delayed by paperwork gaps.
Confirm the role title matches your LCA before signing
The job title on your offer letter should align with what your employer files on the LCA. A mismatch between 'Senior Consultant' and 'Manager' can create problems at the consulate interview.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at your interview
Consulting managers are sometimes asked about long-term career plans. Have a clear, honest answer about your current intentions that doesn't imply permanent relocation, since E-3 is a nonimmigrant visa classification.
E-3 Visa Manager - Consulting: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Manager - Consulting jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces consulting manager roles at employers with E-3 and LCA filing history, so you're not guessing which firms will sponsor. Filter by role type and location to find positions where sponsorship is already part of the hiring process, rather than something you need to negotiate from scratch.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Manager - Consulting role qualify as an E-3 specialty occupation?
Yes, provided the position requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field directly related to the work. Strategy consulting, management consulting, and operations consulting roles typically qualify when the employer can demonstrate the degree requirement is standard for the position. Generalist roles described as 'any business degree' can face more scrutiny during LCA review.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for consulting managers?
For Australian professionals, the E-3 is significantly more practical than the H-1B. There's no annual lottery, no cap to compete against, and processing follows a predictable consulate appointment timeline. H-1B registration opens once a year in March with a random selection process, meaning you could wait 12 or more months for a slot. E-3 applications can move from offer acceptance to consulate interview in a matter of weeks.
Can I change consulting employers on an E-3 visa?
Yes, but the process starts fresh with each new employer. Your new firm files a new LCA with the DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp if you travel internationally before starting. If you're already in the U.S., you can begin working for the new employer once their LCA is certified and you have documentation of the new role, though consulate re-stamping is required before your next international trip.
