Translate your CPA or CA credentials
Australian Chartered Accountants and CPAs aren't automatically recognized as equivalent to U.S. credentials. Get a formal evaluation from a NACES-accredited credential assessment service before interviews so hiring managers can confirm your qualifications meet the specialty occupation standard.
Target companies with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have certified LCAs for FP&A or finance director roles. Companies with recent LCA filings already understand the E-3 visa process and won't treat sponsorship as a dealbreaker.
Use Migrate Mate to run your entire filing
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork end-to-end, from DOL certification through consulate preparation. This removes the filing burden from your new employer and speeds up your start date.
Frame sponsorship as a low-burden ask
The E-3 has no lottery, no lottery fee, and no cap anxiety. When raising sponsorship with a hiring manager, lead with these distinctions from the H-1B visa. Employers who have declined H-1B sponsorship before often have no objection to the E-3 once they understand the difference.
Align your offer letter to DOL wage requirements
Your employer must certify that your offered salary meets the prevailing wage for your specific FP&A role and location before the LCA is approved. Confirm the wage level with your employer before the offer is finalized to avoid delays or a reissued letter.
Time your application around quarterly budget cycles
CFOs and finance leaders hiring for director-level FP&A roles often move fastest in Q4 or ahead of fiscal year planning. Targeting your job search to these windows increases the likelihood you'll find an employer with both budget approval and urgency to sponsor.
E-3 Visa Director Of Financial Planning Analysis: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Director of Financial Planning and Analysis jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 visa sponsorship. You can filter by job title and see which employers have filed LCAs for FP&A positions, so you're targeting companies that have already demonstrated willingness to sponsor rather than cold-applying and hoping for the best.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Director of FP&A role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Director of Financial Planning and Analysis roles require at minimum a bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a closely related field, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. The degree must align with the actual duties of the role, so a general business degree with no finance concentration can sometimes raise questions during LCA or consulate review.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for this role?
For Australian nationals, the E-3 is straightforwardly better for FP&A director roles. There's no annual cap, no lottery, and no multi-year wait. The H-1B involves a random selection process with roughly 25% odds and a single registration window each spring. The E-3 can be filed any time of year once you have an offer, and your employer avoids lottery fees entirely.
Can I change employers or get promoted while on an E-3 in an FP&A role?
You can change employers, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the U.S. or a change of status if you're already stateside. A promotion within the same company that changes your job title or duties significantly may also require a new LCA to reflect the updated role and prevailing wage level.
