Frame your credentials for specialty occupation
A Global Director title alone doesn't guarantee E-3 visa eligibility. Document that your degree field directly relates to the strategic or operational scope of the role, not just general business leadership, to satisfy the specialty occupation requirement.
Target multinationals with existing LCA history
Companies that have filed Labor Condition Applications before move faster through the DOL certification process. Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify employers who have sponsored directors and senior executives at similar levels.
Clarify sponsorship scope before accepting an offer
Confirm whether your employer will sponsor only the initial E-3 or also fund renewals and potential status changes. Global Directors often have longer-horizon roles, so aligning on renewal policy upfront prevents gaps when your two-year period expires.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for complex filings
Senior executive roles sometimes draw USCIS or DOL scrutiny over specialty occupation classification. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork with dedicated expert review, so documentation gaps don't delay your start date.
Address your Australian degree equivalency proactively
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. Include your official transcripts and, if your employer's HR team is unfamiliar with Australian credentials, a credential evaluation letter.
Prepare for consulate questions on organizational authority
Consular officers for director-level applicants often probe whether the role genuinely requires a degree versus broad management experience. Bring your employment offer letter, an organizational chart showing your reporting structure, and a clear position description tied to your specific field of study.
E-3 Visa Global Director: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Global Director jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Search Migrate Mate to filter Global Director roles by employers with active E-3 sponsorship history. Most general job boards don't surface visa sponsorship status accurately, so you can spend weeks applying to roles where sponsorship was never on the table. Migrate Mate surfaces verified sponsoring employers so your search is targeted from the start.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Global Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the role is defined, not just the title. A Global Director position qualifies when it normally requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as international business, finance, or operations management. Broad executive roles framed around general leadership without a specific degree requirement can face scrutiny during the Labor Condition Application review at DOL.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Global Director roles?
The E-3 is available only to Australian citizens and has no lottery, so you can apply at any time of year rather than waiting for an April registration window. H-1B visa selection is random, meaning a qualified Global Director candidate may wait years before getting a slot. E-3 also renews indefinitely in two-year increments, which suits long-tenure director roles better than the H-1B's six-year initial cap.
Can I change employers while holding an E-3 as a Global Director?
Yes, but your E-3 is tied to a specific employer and role. If you move to a new company, your new employer must file a fresh Labor Condition Application with the DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp before re-entering the United States, or an amended status filing if you're already in the country. There's no portability provision like the one available under H-1B.
