Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as an Instructional Design Specialist
Translate your Australian qualifications accurately
A three-year Australian bachelor's degree satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation requirement, but your offer letter must tie your specific degree field to the role. If your degree is in education or communications rather than instructional design directly, ask your employer to document the connection explicitly in the job description.
Target employers with existing LCA filing history
Universities, corporate L&D teams at large tech firms, and healthcare systems file LCAs regularly and understand the process. Searching DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data by job title lets you identify which employers have certified instructional design roles before.
Clarify sponsorship before the final interview round
Many hiring managers confuse E-3 sponsorship with H-1B lottery risk. Raise it after a strong first interview by explaining that E-3 requires no lottery, no cap, and far less employer cost and lead time than H-1B, which removes the most common objection before it becomes a rejection.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA
The LCA must be certified by DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment, and errors in the job duties or wage level fields are a common delay point. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the filing is accurate and submitted promptly after your offer is signed.
Request a start date that accounts for consulate wait times
Sydney and Melbourne consulate appointment availability fluctuates, and processing after your interview can add one to three weeks. Negotiate a start date at least six to eight weeks out from your signed offer so your employer isn't pressured by an unrealistic timeline before your visa stamp arrives.
Prepare a portfolio that demonstrates specialty occupation
Consular officers occasionally probe whether instructional design genuinely requires a degree-level background. Bring a concise portfolio showing curriculum architecture, learning theory application, or e-learning development that signals professional-level expertise, not just content production or coordination work.

Find Instructional Design Specialist JobsInstructional Design Specialist E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Instructional Design Specialist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Instructional Design Specialist roles at U.S. employers who have a history of E-3 and LCA filings, so you're not cold-applying and hoping the hiring team understands the visa. You can filter by role, location, and sponsorship history to focus your applications where they're most likely to convert.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does an Instructional Design Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for E-3?
Yes, provided the position normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in instructional design, education technology, curriculum development, or a closely related field. Roles that accept any degree or have no defined educational requirement can face scrutiny at the consulate. Your offer letter and employer's job description should explicitly state the degree requirement to support the specialty occupation claim.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Instructional Design Specialist roles?
The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so your start date depends on consulate availability rather than a March selection event. H-1B registrations for instructional design roles face the same 85,000-slot cap as every other category, meaning most applicants aren't selected. For Australian nationals, the E-3 is a direct path that bypasses that uncertainty entirely and can be renewed indefinitely.
Can I change employers on an E-3 while already working in the United States?
Yes, but the E-3 is employer-specific, so each new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new visa stamp before starting work for them if your current stamp lists your previous employer. Some practitioners advise obtaining a new stamp at a consulate before switching; plan for four to eight weeks between accepting an offer and your new start date.
