Align your degree to the role description
E-3 visa specialty occupation requires your bachelor's degree field to match the coordinator role. A business administration or project management degree supports most applications, but an unrelated degree needs supplementary documentation showing how your field connects to the duties.
Target employers with active LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for companies that have previously filed LCAs for project coordinator roles. Prior LCA filings signal that an employer understands the process and has infrastructure to sponsor you again.
Address the specialty occupation question directly
Project coordinator is sometimes challenged by consular officers as not requiring a specific degree. Come prepared with the job posting, an offer letter specifying required qualifications, and documentation showing that the employer consistently fills this role with degree holders.
Negotiate the LCA wage level before accepting an offer
Your employer must pay at least the DOL prevailing wage for the role and location. Ask your employer to confirm the wage level designation before you accept, since a Level I wage can raise specialty occupation concerns at the consulate.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and consulate prep
Once you have an offer, the LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa application. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles the LCA submission, DS-160, and consulate preparation so nothing stalls between offer acceptance and your appointment.
Request a role-specific offer letter from your employer
A generic offer letter listing broad duties weakens your E-3 application. Ask your employer to specify the educational requirement in the letter itself, naming the degree field required, not just preferred. Consular officers use this document to assess specialty occupation.
E-3 Visa Project Management Coordinator: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Project Management Coordinator jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals seeking U.S. roles that qualify for E-3 sponsorship. Rather than manually filtering generic job boards, you can search roles where employers are already open to E-3 candidates. Project Management Coordinator positions in sectors like construction, technology, and consulting are frequently listed with sponsorship available.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Project Management Coordinator role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It can, but the classification depends on how the employer defines the role. The position must require a bachelor's degree in a specific related field, not just any degree. Roles that list a degree as preferred rather than required, or that accept any field of study, face greater scrutiny at the consulate. A well-drafted offer letter that specifies the required degree field strengthens the specialty occupation argument.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Project Management Coordinator roles?
The E-3 has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been reached, so there is no lottery and no random selection. You can apply any time of year and receive a decision through a consulate interview, often within weeks. The H-1B, by contrast, requires registration in March with only around a one-in-four chance of selection. For Australian nationals in project management roles, the E-3 is a significantly more predictable path.
Can I change employers or projects while working as a Project Management Coordinator on an E-3?
Yes, but each new employer requires a fresh E-3 process, including a new LCA certified by the DOL and a new visa stamp if yours has expired. You can start working for a new employer once the LCA is certified and, where required, after obtaining an updated visa. There is no portability provision like AC21 for the E-3, so plan the transition timing carefully to avoid a gap in authorized employment.
