Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding E-3 Visa Sponsorship as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Verify your ANMAC credentials translate correctly
U.S. employers and USCIS require your Australian NP qualifications to map to a specialty occupation. A credential evaluation confirming your master's-level psychiatric nursing training meets the bachelor's-or-higher threshold prevents RFEs during the LCA stage.
Target health systems with existing E-3 LCA history
Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway for employers who have filed E-3 LCAs in mental health or advanced practice nursing roles. These employers already understand the process and won't need convincing that E-3 sponsorship is viable.
Clarify prescriptive authority timing with your employer
Psychiatric NPs need state-specific prescriptive authority, which requires a separate application after you arrive. Tell your employer upfront that your E-3 can be filed before licensure is finalized, but prescribing rights follow state board approval timelines.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA and paperwork
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa appointment. Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service manages the entire process from offer to consulate appointment, so neither you nor your employer has to navigate the filing sequence independently.
Get your Australian NCLEX equivalency confirmed early
Some state boards require CGFNS certification or additional documentation for internationally trained NPs. Confirm your state's requirements before accepting an offer, since delays in licensure can push back your start date and complicate your E-3 timeline.
Negotiate job title alignment with your LCA occupation
If your offer letter says 'Mental Health Nurse Practitioner' but the LCA lists 'Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner,' USCIS may flag the discrepancy. Make sure your employment agreement, LCA, and DS-160 all use the same standardized job title.

Find Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner JobsPsychiatric Nurse Practitioner E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. You can filter by job title and see which employers have a history of filing E-3 or H-1B LCAs, which signals genuine sponsorship willingness rather than guesswork from a general job board.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000â$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner positions require a master's degree in psychiatric or mental health nursing as the standard industry entry requirement, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. Your Australian NP qualification must be formally evaluated to confirm it meets the U.S. equivalent of a bachelor's degree or higher in the relevant field.
How does the E-3 visa compare to the H-1B for Psychiatric Nurse Practitioners?
The E-3 has no annual lottery and no cap that fills during the year, so you can apply at any point once you have a job offer. The H-1B caps at 85,000 slots annually and requires a lottery registration in March. For Australian psychiatric NPs, the E-3 is a direct path that bypasses the selection uncertainty entirely.
Can I start work before my E-3 visa is approved if I'm currently in the U.S.?
Only if you change status from a valid nonimmigrant status that authorizes work, such as an existing E-3 or TN. If you're outside the U.S., you must attend a consulate interview and receive your E-3 visa stamp before starting. The DOL LCA certification must also be complete before your DS-160 appointment is scheduled.
