-
NGO Communications Support: Provide communications support for NGO engagement and partnerships, including developing messaging, coordinating stakeholder alignment, and supporting external-facing materials.
-
Stakeholder Alignment: Set priorities and milestones with stakeholders, act as communications partner. Accelerate progress by driving timely decisions and clearing blockers.
-
Process Improvement: Identify and optimize program workflows and team processes; recommend cross-team process improvements to drive better outputs.
-
Reputational Risk Management, Measurement and Reporting: Monitor media and customer insights; identify trends and themes and share insights with stakeholders and leadership. Provide recommendations on perceived risks and opportunities. Review and monitor data (media hits, feedback, engagement metrics) as relevant.

Frame your PR portfolio for U.S. specialties
U.S. employers distinguish sharply between agency, corporate, and nonprofit PR. Restructure your portfolio to highlight the specific track you're targeting, crisis communications, media relations, or brand strategy, so your degree field and experience align visibly with the specialty occupation standard.
Confirm your degree meets specialty occupation
The E-3 visa requires a degree specifically tied to the role. A communications or public relations degree maps cleanly, but a general business degree needs supporting evidence. Gather your academic transcripts and any credential evaluation showing equivalency to a U.S. four-year bachelor's degree.
Target employers with dedicated PR departments
In-house PR teams at publicly traded companies and large nonprofits file LCAs far more routinely than boutique agencies. Search DOL's Foreign Labor Application Gateway to verify which employers have certified LCAs for communications roles before you invest time in the application process.
Search for E-3 roles using Migrate Mate
Most PR job listings don't advertise visa sponsorship explicitly. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork once you have an offer, and search Migrate Mate's job board to find roles with employers already familiar with E-3 sponsorship requirements.
Address the LCA timeline before accepting an offer
DOL must certify your LCA before your visa application can proceed. Ask your prospective employer to submit the LCA immediately after your written offer. Delays here push back your consulate appointment, so confirm the employer has an HR team or legal counsel ready to file promptly.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at your interview
Consular officers assess whether PR specialists plan to stay permanently. You'll need to articulate clear ties to Australia, family, property, or professional obligations, alongside your U.S. role description. A well-documented job offer letter specifying the specialty occupation duties strengthens your position significantly.
E-3 Visa Public Relations Specialist: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Public Relations Specialist jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Most PR job postings don't flag E-3 sponsorship directly, so filtering by visa type is the most reliable approach. Migrate Mate lets you search roles specifically matched to E-3 eligibility, connecting you with employers already familiar with the LCA and consular process for Australian nationals. From there, confirm the role meets specialty occupation requirements before applying.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Public Relations Specialist role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, when the position genuinely requires a bachelor's degree in a specific field like communications, public relations, or journalism. The qualifier is 'requires', if the job description says a degree is preferred rather than required, or accepts any bachelor's degree regardless of field, USCIS may dispute the specialty occupation classification. Make sure the offer letter specifies both the degree requirement and the relevant field.
How does the E-3 compare to H-1B for Public Relations Specialists?
The E-3 has a significant practical advantage: no lottery. H-1B visa selection for PR roles depends entirely on random selection from a pool that has been oversubscribed in recent years. The E-3 allocates up to 10,500 visas annually for Australian citizens and that cap has never been reached, so a qualified PR specialist with a job offer can apply at any point in the year without waiting for a registration window.
Can I switch PR employers once I'm in the U.S. on an E-3?
Yes, but you can't simply transfer your existing E-3. Your new employer must file a fresh LCA with DOL and you'll need a new E-3 visa stamp if yours has expired, or a change of status if you're applying from inside the U.S. Plan for a gap between your last day and your new start date to allow LCA certification time, which DOL typically processes within seven business days.
