Align your degree to procurement titles
E-3 visa eligibility turns on whether your degree matches the role's field. A supply chain, business, or commerce degree supports Purchasing Assistant applications. An unrelated degree may require a credentials evaluation showing equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's in a relevant discipline.
Target employers with active LCA histories
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data for employers who have previously filed LCAs for purchasing or procurement titles. Prior filings signal a finance or operations team already familiar with the E-3 sponsorship process.
Clarify the degree requirement in job listings
Listings that say 'bachelor's preferred' rather than 'required' can disqualify a role from E-3 specialty occupation status. Before applying, confirm with the hiring manager that a degree in a specific field is genuinely required, not just preferred.
Get your LCA filed before the interview stage ends
Your employer must file a certified LCA with the DOL before you can attend your consulate appointment. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so the certification is ready the moment you have a signed offer.
Prepare an Australian credentials summary for HR teams
Many U.S. HR departments are unfamiliar with Australian three-year bachelor's degrees. A one-page summary confirming your qualification meets the U.S. equivalent threshold reduces back-and-forth and helps HR move the sponsorship request through internal approvals faster.
Request an E-3 transfer when changing procurement employers
Switching employers on E-3 status requires your new employer to file a fresh LCA and you to attend a new consulate appointment or file a change of status. You can start work before the new visa is stamped if the LCA is certified and you remain in valid status.
E-3 Visa Purchasing Assistant: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Purchasing Assistant jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles that include E-3 visa sponsorship. Rather than filtering general job boards manually, Migrate Mate surfaces Purchasing Assistant and procurement roles at employers with active sponsorship history, saving you the guesswork of identifying which companies will support the E-3 process.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Purchasing Assistant role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
It depends on how the employer defines the position. The E-3 requires the role to normally require at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field such as supply chain management, business administration, or a related discipline. If the job description accepts any degree or no degree at all, USCIS may not treat it as a specialty occupation, which would make E-3 sponsorship unavailable for that specific posting.
How does the E-3 visa compare to H-1B for Purchasing Assistant roles?
The E-3 is available exclusively to Australian citizens and has no annual lottery, so your employer can sponsor you at any point in the year with a straightforward DOL and consulate process. The H-1B visa has a highly competitive annual lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate for most applicants. For an Australian in a Purchasing Assistant role, the E-3 is a far more predictable path.
Can my employer sponsor me for E-3 status if they have never done it before?
Yes. There is no requirement for an employer to have prior E-3 filing history. The process involves two main steps: the employer files a Labor Condition Application with the DOL, and you attend a consulate interview in Australia. Many first-time E-3 sponsors in purchasing and operations teams complete the process without immigration counsel by using a filing service that guides them through each step.
