E-3 Visa Science Teacher Jobs
Science Teacher roles qualify for E-3 visa sponsorship because teaching a STEM subject at the secondary or post-secondary level typically meets the specialty occupation standard. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, so Australian educators can pursue roles year-round with a willing U.S. school or district employer.

Verify your degree meets specialty occupation
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees in science education are generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree. Bring your academic transcripts and a credential evaluation to confirm the equivalency before approaching any employer.
Target districts with established visa programs
Public school districts that have previously hired foreign-trained teachers on work visas already have HR processes for LCA filing. Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data to identify districts that have filed LCAs for teaching roles in recent years.
Get your state teaching license sorted early
Most U.S. states require a state-issued teaching license or an emergency permit before a school can file your LCA. Research your target state's licensure reciprocity rules for Australian-trained science teachers before accepting any offer.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the paperwork
Once you have a job offer, Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service handles your LCA submission to DOL, visa paperwork preparation, and consulate appointment guidance, so neither you nor your employer has to navigate the process alone.
Ask your employer about the LCA timeline upfront
The LCA must be certified by DOL before your visa interview. Confirm your hiring school has budgeted time for this step, as start dates tied to the academic calendar leave little room for filing delays.
Prepare for nonimmigrant intent questions at the consulate
Consular officers will ask about your ties to Australia and your plans after the E-3 expires. Specific answers about ongoing property, family, or professional connections at home are more persuasive than general statements of intent.
E-3 Visa Science Teacher: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Science Teacher jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for Science Teacher roles where U.S. employers are open to E-3 sponsorship. Because many school districts don't advertise visa sponsorship in job listings, filtering by employers with prior LCA filing history saves significant time and surfaces the schools most likely to move forward with an Australian applicant.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Science Teacher role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, in most cases. Teaching a science subject at the secondary or post-secondary level typically satisfies the specialty occupation requirement because it normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in science education or a specific science discipline. The degree must align with the subject you'll teach, so a chemistry teacher with a chemistry degree is a straightforward case, while a broader science role may require more supporting documentation.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Science Teacher roles?
The E-3 is available to Australian citizens only and has a 10,500-place annual allocation that has never been exhausted, so there's no lottery and no cap risk. The H-1B visa has an 85,000-place cap subject to a random lottery, meaning your application could be rejected before it's even reviewed. For Australian science teachers, the E-3 is the more reliable and faster path to U.S. employment.
Can a public school district sponsor an E-3 visa for a Science Teacher?
Yes. Public school districts are not cap-exempt employers in the H-1B sense, but the E-3 has no employer-type restrictions. Any U.S. employer, including public school districts, can file an LCA with DOL and support your E-3 application. Some states have active teacher recruitment programs for international educators that make districts more familiar with the sponsorship process.
