Frame your portfolio for specialty occupation
Your portfolio needs to demonstrate that the role requires a specific degree, not just creative talent. Label each case study with the discipline it draws on, brand strategy, visual communications, or a related field, so your employer can clearly support an LCA filing.
Target employers with in-house LCA experience
Agencies and brand studios that have filed LCAs before move faster and make fewer errors. Search the DOL's Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify which employers have certified Labor Condition Applications for creative director-level roles.
Clarify your degree equivalency before interviews
A three-year Australian bachelor's in design or visual communications is generally accepted as equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree for E-3 purposes. Get a credential evaluation done before you receive an offer so there are no delays when the employer files the LCA.
Negotiate title alignment with the job offer
The LCA must reflect your actual job title and SOC code. 'Senior Art Director' maps to a specific DOL occupational classification, and a mismatch between your offer letter and the LCA is a common cause of USCIS requests for evidence. Confirm the title is consistent across all documents before signing.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the LCA
The LCA certification step sits entirely with DOL, not USCIS, and most employers haven't done one before. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so your employer doesn't stall the process trying to figure out FLAG portal submissions.
Book your consulate appointment as soon as the LCA certifies
DOL certifies most LCAs within seven business days. Schedule your U.S. Embassy appointment in Sydney, Melbourne, or Perth immediately after, because appointment slots at Australian consulates can extend several weeks out during peak periods.

Find Senior Art Director JobsSenior Art Director E-3 Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Senior Art Director jobs that offer E-3 visa sponsorship?
Use Migrate Mate to search Senior Art Director roles filtered by E-3 visa sponsorship. Most general job boards don't let you filter by visa type, so you end up cold-applying to roles where the employer has never heard of the E-3. Migrate Mate surfaces employers already open to sponsoring Australian professionals, which cuts out a lot of wasted applications.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Senior Art Director role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes. Senior Art Director roles require a bachelor's degree in a specific field, typically visual communications, graphic design, or a closely related discipline, which satisfies the E-3 specialty occupation definition. The key is that your employer's job description must specify a degree requirement, not just treat it as preferred. A generic 'bachelor's degree in any field' language in the posting can create problems at the LCA stage.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Senior Art Director roles?
The E-3 is significantly more practical for Australians pursuing Senior Art Director positions. There's no lottery, no annual cap that runs out, and no registration period to wait for. You can apply as soon as you have a certified LCA and a job offer, which means you can start within weeks rather than waiting up to a year for an H-1B cycle. The E-3 also renews indefinitely in two-year increments as long as you maintain qualifying employment.
Can I switch employers or agencies while on an E-3 as a Senior Art Director?
Yes, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA before you start. The E-3 is employer-specific, so you can't carry it over from one agency or studio to another. There's no formal grace period written into E-3 rules for employer changes, so you'll want the new LCA certified and your visa updated before leaving your current role to avoid any gap in authorized status.
