Frame your degree against U.S. requirements
Australian three-year bachelor's degrees are generally accepted as equivalent to U.S. four-year degrees for E-3 visa purposes, but your offer letter must clearly state the role requires a degree in a relevant field like computer science, business, or engineering.
Target companies with LCA filing history
Search DOL's OFLC disclosure data for employers who have filed LCAs for Product Manager roles. A company with prior LCA filings already understands the process and won't treat your E-3 request as a novel compliance burden.
Address the specialty occupation question early
Some hiring managers assume generalist PM titles won't qualify. Bring your job description into early conversations and confirm the role requires a specific degree field, not just any bachelor's degree, which is the threshold that makes it a specialty occupation.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for your paperwork
Once you have an offer, use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA filing and visa paperwork end-to-end. This keeps your employer's compliance burden minimal, which removes a common reason tech companies hesitate on sponsorship.
Get your LCA certified before scheduling your interview
Your employer must file and receive DOL certification of the LCA before you can apply at the consulate. Build this into your start date negotiation, as LCA certification typically takes seven business days but can run longer during high-volume periods.
Prepare evidence of nonimmigrant intent for your interview
E-3 consular officers assess nonimmigrant intent at every renewal. For PM roles, bring documentation of your employment terms, any time-bound project scope, and ties to Australia such as property ownership, family, or financial accounts.
E-3 Visa Software Product Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Software Product Manager jobs with E-3 visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for Australian professionals searching for U.S. roles with E-3 sponsorship. Rather than filtering through generic job boards, you can search directly for Software Product Manager positions at employers who have E-3 and LCA filing experience, so you're not starting the sponsorship conversation from scratch with every application.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Software Product Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree or higher in a specific field such as computer science, engineering, or business. The key is that the degree must be a genuine prerequisite, not just preferred. A vague job description that accepts any bachelor's degree can create complications, so asking your employer to tighten the language before filing the LCA is worth the effort.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Software Product Manager roles?
The E-3 has no annual lottery, no cap backlog, and can be filed directly at an Australian consulate without waiting for a fiscal year window. H-1B visa registration opens once a year and is subject to random selection. For Australian PMs already in the U.S. on another status, an E-3 change of status is also available without waiting for lottery results.
Can I switch employers while on an E-3 as a Software Product Manager?
You can change employers, but your new employer must file a fresh LCA and you need a new E-3 visa stamp if yours was tied to the previous role. There is no portability rule equivalent to the H-1B's 180-day AC21 provision. You can continue working once the new LCA is certified and you have the updated visa documentation in hand.
