Frame your degree field precisely
Consular officers assess whether your degree matches the TPM role. A business degree alone may raise questions, so pair it with transcripts showing software engineering, information systems, or product-focused coursework that maps directly to your job description.
Target companies with LCA filing history
Search the DOL's Office of Foreign Labor Certification disclosure data to identify employers who have filed LCAs for product manager roles. These companies already understand the E-3 visa process and are less likely to stall during the offer stage.
Clarify sponsorship in the first conversation
When a recruiter confirms interest, ask directly whether the company files E-3 visas before you invest time in interviews. Many TPM-heavy tech firms do, but some mid-size companies conflate E-3 with H-1B visa and assume a lottery is involved.
Resolve your LCA before resigning offshore
Your employer must file and receive a certified LCA from the DOL before you can apply at the consulate. Don't quit your Australian role or book flights until that certification is in hand, as processing can take seven or more business days.
Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service for the full process
TPM offers often close fast, and LCA errors can delay your start date by weeks. Use Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service to handle your LCA and visa paperwork so your employer doesn't need to manage government portals they've never used.
Prepare a specialty occupation response for the interview
If your TPM role involves cross-functional scope, a consular officer may question whether it truly requires a specific degree. Bring a detailed job description from your employer that ties each core responsibility to a required technical or systems-level qualification.
E-3 Visa Technical Product Manager: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I find Technical Product Manager jobs with E-3 sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists Technical Product Manager roles from employers who actively sponsor E-3 visas, so you're not cold-filtering a general job board. The E-3 has no lottery and no annual cap, which means you can apply year-round once you have a qualifying offer, making it easier to time your search around your current role.
How much does it cost to get an E-3 visa?
Migrate Mate's E-3 filing service covers the entire process for $499, including the Labor Condition Application, visa document preparation, and consulate appointment guidance. Traditional immigration lawyers charge $2,000–$5,000+ for the same work. The E-3 has less paperwork than most work visas, so paying thousands for legal help is usually unnecessary.
Does a Technical Product Manager role qualify as a specialty occupation for the E-3?
Yes, in most cases. The E-3 requires the role to be a specialty occupation, meaning it normally requires at least a bachelor's degree in a specific field. TPM positions that require a degree in computer science, engineering, or information systems qualify clearly. Broad general management roles with no specific degree requirement are harder to support and may draw scrutiny at the consulate.
How does the E-3 compare to the H-1B for Technical Product Manager roles?
The E-3 is exclusively for Australian citizens and has a 10,500 annual cap that has never been exhausted, so there's no lottery. The H-1B has an 85,000 annual cap subject to a random lottery, meaning you could apply and not be selected. For a TPM role, the E-3 offers a more reliable and faster path to starting work in the U.S., assuming your employer is willing to file the required LCA with the DOL.
What happens to my E-3 status if I change employers or move into a different product role?
The E-3 is employer-specific, so changing companies requires your new employer to file a fresh LCA and you'll need to obtain a new E-3 visa stamp at a consulate. If your role changes significantly within the same company, such as moving from product to a general operations function, your employer may need to file an updated LCA to reflect the new position and prevailing wage level.
