Emergency Department Registered Nurse Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a emergency department registered nurse in New York?
You become an emergency department registered nurse in New York by earning an Associate or Bachelor of Science in Nursing from an accredited program, passing the NCLEX-RN exam, and obtaining a Registered Nurse license through the New York State Education Department's Office of the Professions. After licensure, most candidates build emergency-specific experience in general acute care before moving into a dedicated ED role. Earning CEN certification strengthens your candidacy at competitive New York hospital systems.
How much do emergency department registered nurses make in New York?
Emergency department registered nurses in New York earn a median of about $109,440 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $79,760 for the lowest 10% to over $157,090 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire emergency department registered nurses in New York?
Employers hiring emergency department registered nurses in New York right now include Newark Wayne Community Hospital, CENTSTONE SERVICES, and Catholic Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's large academic medical centers and public hospital networks tend to post the most consistent volume of emergency department openings year-round.
Which New York cities have the most emergency department registered nurse jobs?
The cities with the most emergency department registered nurse openings in New York are Rochester, Rockville Centre, and Utica. New York City accounts for the largest share by a wide margin given the concentration of Level I trauma centers, public hospital campuses, and large academic medical systems, while secondary metros like Buffalo and Albany generate steady demand from regional medical centers and teaching hospitals anchoring those communities.
Are there remote emergency department registered nurse jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Emergency department nursing is a hands-on, patient-facing role that cannot be performed remotely in most circumstances. About 0% of emergency department registered nurse openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how limited location flexibility is in this specialty. The remote subset is almost entirely made up of telephonic triage, nurse advice line, or case management roles that draw on ED clinical backgrounds.
How can I get hired as a emergency department registered nurse in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to a new-graduate nurse residency program, which large New York systems including NYC Health + Hospitals and Northwell Health run specifically to place new RNs into structured ED rotations with mentorship. Candidates who start in medical-surgical, telemetry, or urgent care roles within these systems frequently move into the ED after gaining foundational acute care experience. Holding an active New York RN license and a current BLS and ACLS certification before applying gives new graduates a clear competitive advantage.
Where can I find and apply to emergency department registered nurse jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to emergency department registered nurse jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and preferred location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
