Neonatologist Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a neonatologist in New York?
To practice as a neonatologist in New York, you must hold an active medical license issued by the New York State Education Department, which requires completing medical school, an accredited pediatric residency, and a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship. After fellowship, most New York employers expect board certification in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine through the American Board of Pediatrics. Applying for New York licensure through the State Education Department is the foundational step before any clinical hire.
How much do neonatologists make in New York?
Neonatologists in New York earn a median of about $212,150 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $82,320 for the lowest 10% to over $357,440 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire neonatologists in New York?
Employers hiring neonatologists in New York right now include Pediatrix Medical, Mohawk Valley Health System, and PHYSICIAN AFFILIATE GROUP OF NEW YORK, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's concentration of large academic medical centers and regional children's hospitals means most openings are tied to health systems with Level III or Level IV NICUs across the state.
Which New York cities have the most neonatologist jobs?
Elmira, Bronx, and Brooklyn have the most neonatologist openings in New York. New York City accounts for the majority of listings given its density of academic medical centers and large hospital systems, while Buffalo and Albany attract openings through their regional academic health systems and referral hospitals that serve broad upstate and western New York populations.
Are there remote neonatologist jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Neonatology is a hands-on clinical specialty requiring direct bedside care in a NICU, so the vast majority of roles are fully on-site. About 0% of neonatologist openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve telemedicine consultation, administrative leadership, or research roles rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a neonatologist in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a neonatal-perinatal medicine fellowship at a New York academic program, such as those affiliated with NewYork-Presbyterian, Montefiore, or Northwell Health, which regularly hire their own graduates into attending roles. New fellows can also target junior attending or neonatologist hospitalist positions at community hospitals with Level II or Level III NICUs. Obtaining New York State licensure early and securing American Board of Pediatrics candidacy status before graduation gives candidates a concrete hiring edge.
Where can I find and apply to neonatologist jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to neonatologist jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings from employers across the state. Find the roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
