OB/GYN Jobs in New York: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a ob/gyn in New York?
To practice as an ob/gyn in New York, you must hold a New York State physician license issued by the New York State Education Department, which requires completing medical school, an ACGME-accredited four-year ob/gyn residency, and passing all three steps of the USMLE. After licensure, most New York hospital systems also require board certification through the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology before granting full attending privileges.
How much do OB/GYNs make in New York?
OB/GYNs in New York earn a median of about $348,800 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $91,510 for the lowest 10% to over $449,020 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire ob/gyns in New York?
Employers hiring ob/gyns in New York right now include Optum, NYU Langone Health, and Canton-Potsdam Hospital, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. New York's dense hospital and health system landscape means hiring is ongoing across both large academic medical centers in New York City and community hospital networks serving upstate regions.
Which New York cities have the most ob/gyn jobs?
The cities with the most ob/gyn openings in New York are Poughkeepsie, New York, and Harris. New York City dominates due to the sheer concentration of academic medical centers, large public hospital systems, and high-volume labor and delivery units, while secondary markets like Buffalo and Albany reflect the regional health systems, including SUNY-affiliated institutions, that anchor ob/gyn employment outside the metro area.
Are there remote ob/gyn jobs in New York?
Yes, but they're rare. Ob/gyn is a hands-on clinical specialty, so the vast majority of roles require in-person patient care in a hospital or clinical setting. About 0% of ob/gyn openings tied to New York are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in telehealth consultations, administrative medical director roles, or gynecologic coding and utilization review.
How can I get hired as a ob/gyn in New York with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path for an ob/gyn without attending experience is matching into a New York-based residency program, as completing a residency at a New York institution directly positions you for staff hiring at that same system. Large employers such as Northwell Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, and the NYC Health + Hospitals network regularly convert their own residents into first-year attendings or offer new-grad hospitalist ob/gyn roles. Fellowship training in maternal-fetal medicine or minimally invasive surgery further strengthens candidacy at New York's academic centers.
Where can I find and apply to ob/gyn jobs in New York?
You can find and apply to ob/gyn jobs in New York on Migrate Mate, which lists current New York openings from hospitals, health systems, and physician group practices. Find the roles that fit your credentials and experience, then apply directly through each listing.
