Overview
The Engineering Project Manager (EPM) is the engineering team's primary interface with the rest of the business and owns engineering execution across all active projects. This role manages design scope, sprint planning, engineering capacity, and cross-discipline coordination while serving as the key decision point between Project Management requests and engineering delivery.
Reporting to the Engineering Integration Manager, the EPM balances customer commitments with engineering capacity and priorities. This position protects engineering teams from unplanned work, owns BOM milestone accountability, and represents Engineering in cross-functional planning and scheduling discussions.
The EPM works closely with the Engineering Coordinator to maintain sprint health and project tracking accuracy and partners with the Systems Team to ensure pre-PO requirements and project setup are incorporated into engineering planning from project initiation.

Provide engineering commitment dates to Operations and Scheduling, maintain date accuracy, and communicate changes proactively.
Serve as the primary routing point between Operations and Engineering for status and scope requests.
Coordinate cross-discipline deliverables between Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, including shared milestones, submittal packages, and design dependencies.
Assess technical scope impacts for change orders and work with engineers to determine design impacts before commercial terms are established.
Identify, track, and communicate technical risks; escalate issues when they exceed Engineering's capacity to resolve within the sprint.
Partner with the Systems Team to ensure pre-PO stakeholder requirements and project setup are complete before engineering execution begins.
Identify projects entering execution without adequate front-end definition and communicate gaps.
Partner with the Engineering Coordinator on sprint ceremonies, board accuracy, and capacity visibility.
Develop and maintain EPM processes, including intake workflows, escalation criteria, sprint governance, and milestone tracking.
Drive continuous improvement of engineering execution and project management processes.

Engineering Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering manager in Utah?
Most engineering managers in Utah move into the role from a senior individual contributor position after demonstrating leadership on cross-functional projects. A bachelor's degree in engineering or computer science is the standard baseline, and many hiring managers prefer a master's or MBA for roles with strategic scope. Utah's defense and tech employers typically promote from within or recruit engineers who have already led small teams, so building visible technical and people leadership experience early is the most direct path.
Which companies hire engineering managers in Utah?
Employers hiring engineering managers in Utah right now include Northrop Grumman, Zions Bancorporation, and BHI, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Utah's Wasatch Front is home to a dense cluster of aerospace, semiconductor, and enterprise software companies that maintain ongoing engineering manager pipelines throughout the year.
Which Utah cities have the most engineering manager jobs?
Roy, Salt Lake City, and Ogden account for the largest share of engineering manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City anchors the market as the state's primary corporate and tech hub, while Provo and Lehi benefit from the high concentration of software companies and startups in the Silicon Slopes corridor, and Ogden draws demand from defense and aerospace contractors concentrated in the northern Wasatch Front.
Are there remote engineering manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, though they're less common than for individual contributor roles since engineering managers are typically expected to be present for team standups, one-on-ones, and cross-functional planning. About 40% of engineering manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the fully remote roles concentrated in software and product engineering orgs rather than defense or hardware teams. Hybrid schedules are more prevalent than fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a engineering manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is a tech lead or senior engineer role at a Utah employer where you can take on informal management responsibilities before making the formal transition. Large employers like Adobe and Northrop Grumman in Utah run structured leadership development programs that identify high-performing engineers for people management tracks. Building experience owning a small project team, conducting code reviews, or mentoring junior engineers makes a strong case, and completing a people management certificate strengthens applications when direct experience is limited.
Where can I find and apply to engineering manager jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to engineering manager jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, identify the ones that match your experience and target location, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
