Responsibilities
- Review and interpret construction drawings, blueprints, and technical specifications to accurately estimate material requirements and project costs
- Utilize estimating software such as HeavyBid, Xactimate, and other construction management tools to develop detailed cost proposals
- Perform quantity takeoffs from blueprints using Bluebeam and spreadsheets to determine precise material quantities and labor needs
- Manage project budgets by estimating costs for labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor services while ensuring adherence to client specifications
- Negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors to secure competitive pricing and favorable contract terms
- Prepare comprehensive bid packages, including detailed scope of work, pricing, and schedule estimates
- Monitor project costs throughout the bidding process and collaborate with project managers to control costs during execution
- Review construction contracts and assist in managing project timelines, scope changes, and risk mitigation strategies
- Communicate effectively with clients to clarify project requirements, provide updates, and negotiate terms as needed
- Maintain organized records of estimates, contracts, change orders, and related documentation for future reference
Experience
- Proven experience as a construction estimator specializing in commercial concrete projects or heavy civil construction
- Strong proficiency in estimating software such as HeavyBid, Bluebeam, Xactimate, and other construction management tools
- Extensive knowledge of blueprint reading, technical drawings interpretation, and estimating material requirements from blueprints
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with accuracy and efficiency
- Excellent negotiation skills with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients to achieve optimal pricing and terms
- Solid understanding of construction industry standards, contracts, project management principles, and cost control methods
- Construction site experience is highly desirable to better interpret technical drawings and understand on-site realities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel spreadsheets for cost analysis; Word for reports) is essential
- Familiarity with construction drawing review processes and estimating for commercial projects is required
