Family Medicine Physician Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a family medicine physician in Washington?
To practice as a family medicine physician in Washington, you must hold a medical degree from an accredited institution, complete an accredited family medicine residency, and obtain a full medical license from the Washington Medical Commission. The Commission requires passing scores on the USMLE or COMLEX, a completed residency, and a background check. Board certification through the American Board of Family Medicine, while not mandated by the state, is expected by most Washington employers and health systems.
How much do family medicine physicians make in Washington?
Family medicine physicians in Washington earn a median of about $292,900 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $145,640 for the lowest 10% to over $337,870 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire family medicine physicians in Washington?
Employers hiring family medicine physicians in Washington right now include Provider Solutions & Development, HealthPoint (Washington), and MultiCare Health System, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's large integrated health systems, federally qualified health centers, and Indian Health Service sites generate consistent physician demand across both metropolitan and rural regions of the state.
Which Washington cities have the most family medicine physician jobs?
Seattle, Spokane, and Tacoma account for the largest share of family medicine physician openings in Washington. Seattle drives volume through its concentration of major health systems and academic medical centers, while Spokane serves as the primary healthcare hub for eastern Washington, and Tacoma's growth reflects expanding MultiCare and CHI Franciscan facilities meeting demand in the South Puget Sound region.
Are there remote family medicine physician jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're rare. Family medicine is fundamentally a hands-on clinical role requiring in-person patient care, so fully remote positions are limited. About 8% of family medicine physician openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those tend to be telehealth-specific roles focused on chronic disease management, follow-up visits, or behavioral health integration rather than full-scope primary care practice.
How can I get hired as a family medicine physician in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to residency-to-employment pipeline programs run by large Washington health systems such as Providence, MultiCare, and UW Medicine, which regularly recruit graduating residents into attending positions. Federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics across Washington, particularly in underserved counties east of the Cascades, actively recruit new graduates and offer National Health Service Corps loan repayment as an added incentive. Completing a Washington-based residency, securing board eligibility, and obtaining your Washington Medical Commission license before graduation gives you a clear edge.
Where can I find and apply to family medicine physician jobs in Washington?
You can find and apply to family medicine physician jobs in Washington on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring in the state. Search the available roles, identify the positions that match your training and preferences, and apply directly to the ones that fit.
