Medical Office Assistant Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a medical office assistant in Washington?
Washington does not require a state-issued license for medical office assistants, so the path starts with completing a certificate or associate degree program in medical assisting or medical office administration from a community college or vocational school. Programs at institutions like Bellingham Technical College or Spokane Falls Community College are well regarded by Washington employers. Most hiring managers also look for a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant credential, which demonstrates competency in scheduling, billing, and records management.
Which companies hire medical office assistants in Washington?
Employers hiring medical office assistants in Washington right now include Olympic Medical Center, Astria Health, and WSA, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Washington's large integrated health networks, including regional systems anchored in the Puget Sound area, account for a significant share of consistent openings across the state.
Which Washington cities have the most medical office assistant jobs?
Sequim, Port Angeles, and Seattle lead Washington for medical office assistant openings. Seattle drives the largest share of postings because of the density of major health systems and specialty clinics in King County, while Tacoma's MultiCare and smaller community health centers fuel demand in Pierce County, and Spokane's role as the regional healthcare hub for Eastern Washington sustains steady hiring there year-round.
Are there remote medical office assistant jobs in Washington?
Yes, but they're rare. About 11% of medical office assistant openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, since most duties such as patient intake, rooming, and in-person administrative support require an on-site presence. The tasks most likely to appear in remote or hybrid arrangements are medical billing, insurance verification, and prior authorization processing.
How can I get hired as a medical office assistant in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for front-desk receptionist or patient services representative roles at community health centers and federally qualified health centers across Washington, which routinely hire and train candidates without clinical experience. Large systems like UW Medicine and MultiCare Health System run new employee orientation cohorts that include on-the-job training for medical office tasks. Earning a Certified Medical Administrative Assistant credential before applying and highlighting any adjacent experience in customer service, data entry, or healthcare reception strengthens a new applicant's profile considerably.
