Healthcare employers, including hospital systems and long-term care facilities regulated by the West Virginia Department of Health, typically require this credential or a Registered Dietitian designation. Building experience in institutional or contract food service before stepping into a director role is the standard path.

Logan, Elkins, and Marmet have the most food service director openings in West Virginia. Charleston drives volume as the state's largest city and home to major hospital systems and state government facilities, while Huntington and Morgantown are anchored by Cabell Huntington Hospital and West Virginia University's medical and dining operations respectively.
How can I get hired as a food service director in West Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a food service supervisor or dietary aide coordinator role at a West Virginia hospital or long-term care facility, then advancing once you have direct management hours. Earning your Certified Dietary Manager credential through the Association of Nutrition and Foodservice Professionals while working in one of these roles significantly strengthens a promotion case.
