General Manager Jobs in New Hampshire: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a general manager in New Hampshire?
Most general manager roles in New Hampshire require a bachelor's degree in business, hospitality, or a related field combined with progressive management experience. New Hampshire does not issue a general state license for the role itself, though managers in regulated sectors must meet sector-specific requirements, such as a New Hampshire liquor license for food and beverage establishments or a healthcare administrator credential for certain facilities. Building P&L experience at the assistant or department manager level is the most direct path employers look for.
How much do general managers make in New Hampshire?
General managers in New Hampshire earn a median of about $124,680 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $61,100 for the lowest 10% to over $264,270 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire general managers in New Hampshire?
Employers hiring general managers in New Hampshire right now include Wendy's, Domino's, and Dunkin', based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. New Hampshire's mix of hospitality groups, regional health systems, and manufacturing firms means openings are distributed across the state rather than concentrated in a single industry.
Which New Hampshire cities have the most general manager jobs?
Manchester, Nashua, and Portsmouth account for the largest share of general manager openings in New Hampshire. Manchester and Nashua drive most of the volume as the state's two largest population centers, with corporate offices, regional distribution hubs, and retail clusters concentrated there, while Concord's openings are shaped by state government contractors, healthcare networks, and professional services anchored in the capital.
Are there remote general manager jobs in New Hampshire?
Yes, but they're rare. General manager roles are largely hands-on positions requiring on-site oversight of staff, facilities, and daily operations. About 0% of general manager openings tied to New Hampshire are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those that do allow flexibility tend to be regional or multi-unit roles where strategy and reporting can be handled off-site while direct reports manage day-to-day operations locally.
How can I get hired as a general manager in New Hampshire with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an assistant manager or department supervisor role with a large New Hampshire employer such as Hannaford, Market Basket, or a Dartmouth Health affiliate, where internal promotion tracks are structured and documented. Many hospitality properties in the Lakes Region and Mount Washington Valley hire shift leads and front-of-house supervisors as development roles for future general managers. Completing a business degree at a New Hampshire institution like Southern New Hampshire University or Plymouth State alongside hourly leadership experience strengthens a candidate's profile considerably.
