Healthcare Operations Manager Jobs in Virginia: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a healthcare operations manager in Virginia?
A bachelor's degree in healthcare administration, health services management, or a clinical field is the standard entry point, with many Virginia employers preferring a master's degree for management-level roles. Healthcare operations management is not a state-licensed profession in Virginia, so there is no required board exam. Earning a Certified Healthcare Executive credential through the American College of Healthcare Executives strengthens candidacy, and Virginia's health systems heavily weight direct supervisory experience in clinical or administrative settings.
Which companies hire healthcare operations managers in Virginia?
Employers hiring healthcare operations managers in Virginia right now include Civitas Health Services, Amazon, and Barton Malow Company, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Virginia's mix of large integrated health systems, federally qualified health centers, and military treatment facilities near installations such as Fort Belvoir and Naval Medical Center Portsmouth creates a consistently broad range of openings across the state.
Which Virginia cities have the most healthcare operations manager jobs?
Vienna, Sandston, and Arlington account for the most healthcare operations manager openings in Virginia. Northern Virginia's concentration of Inova facilities and federally contracted health services organizations drives high volume near the D.C. corridor, while Richmond's role as home to VCU Health and Bon Secours anchors Central Virginia hiring, and Hampton Roads openings reflect Sentara's large regional network alongside substantial military and veterans' health system demand.
Are there remote healthcare operations manager jobs in Virginia?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based fields, since the role typically involves on-site oversight of staff, facilities, and clinical workflows. About 0% of healthcare operations manager openings tied to Virginia are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with full-remote arrangements most often found in revenue cycle management, compliance oversight, and health information management functions rather than direct facility or staff supervision roles.
How can I get hired as a healthcare operations manager in Virginia with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a healthcare operations manager role from an adjacent administrative position such as practice coordinator, patient services supervisor, or clinical team lead. Large Virginia employers including Inova Health System, Sentara Healthcare, and VCU Health recruit for administrative associate and operations coordinator roles that build the supervisory and regulatory competency needed to advance. Completing a healthcare administration graduate program with a required residency or practicum at a Virginia facility is a direct route, and earning a Certified Healthcare Executive credential signals readiness even without years of management experience.
Where can I find and apply to healthcare operations manager jobs in Virginia?
