Who's Hiring

What Employers Look For
The qualifications that appear most often in hris consultant jobs.
- Hands-on configuration experience with at least one major HRIS platform such as Workday, SAP SuccessFactors, or Oracle HCM
- Bachelor's degree in human resources, information systems, business administration, or a related field
- Experience supporting HRIS implementations, system upgrades, or module rollouts end to end
- Proficiency in data analysis, reporting, and building custom reports within an HRIS environment
- Strong understanding of HR business processes including payroll, benefits, recruiting, and performance management
- HRIS-specific certifications such as Workday Pro, SAP SuccessFactors certification, or Oracle HCM Cloud credentials preferred
Tips for Your Hris Consultant Job Search
Tailor your resume to each platform
Hiring managers scan for the specific HRIS platform named in the job post. Lead your resume summary with the system you know best, whether that's SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, or Workday, so your experience registers immediately against the role's core requirement.
Quantify your implementation scope clearly
Vague phrases like 'supported HRIS rollout' get skipped. Replace them with specifics: how many employees were on the system, which modules you configured, and whether you led or assisted. Employers evaluating hris consultant candidates want to gauge scale and ownership fast.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists hris consultant openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Target postings by module not just title
Search for the HRIS module you specialize in, such as payroll, talent management, or compensation, alongside the consultant title. Roles targeting module experts often attract fewer applicants than generic postings, giving your application better visibility at the screening stage.
Prepare a system-specific scenario for interviews
Most hris consultant interviews include a scenario question about handling a misconfigured workflow or a data migration issue. Rehearse one real example per platform you know, including the root cause, your fix, and the outcome, so you can answer without hesitation.
Negotiate based on implementation complexity
When discussing compensation, anchor your ask to implementation complexity rather than years of experience alone. A full-cycle Workday HCM implementation carries more market weight than configuration support work, so name the scope of projects you have led when entering the negotiation.
Hris Consultant Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most hris consultants?
The most active employers for hris consultants right now are CTTRANSIT, OBXtek, and Haworth, and the most openings are in Michigan, Texas, and Kansas, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Healthcare systems, large financial services firms, and enterprise technology companies consistently post the highest volume of hris consultant roles.
How many hris consultant jobs are remote?
About 75% of hris consultant openings are fully remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting strong demand for flexible arrangements in this role. System configuration, report building, and post-implementation support work are the sub-areas most commonly offered as fully remote, while on-site requirements tend to cluster around go-live phases and end-user training.
How do you become a hris consultant?
Start with a degree in human resources, information systems, or business, then gain hands-on exposure to an HRIS platform through an HR analyst or system administrator role. Pursue a platform certification such as Workday Pro or SAP SuccessFactors to demonstrate technical depth. Build experience across at least one full implementation cycle before targeting consultant titles, as employers value end-to-end project exposure over surface-level configuration experience.
Can you get hired as an hris consultant with little experience?
Yes, entry points exist if you position yourself around a specific platform and a defined skill. HR coordinators or analysts who have administered an HRIS in-house often move into junior consultant roles by emphasizing their configuration work and report-building. Earning a vendor certification before applying, even without a completed implementation, signals readiness and compensates for limited consulting experience.
What does the hris consultant interview process look like?
Most hris consultant interview processes include an initial recruiter screen, a hiring manager conversation focused on your platform experience and project history, and at least one technical or scenario round where you walk through how you handled a configuration challenge or data issue. Some employers add a brief take-home exercise or ask you to present a past implementation. Final rounds typically involve an HR leader or project manager assessing your communication style with business stakeholders.
Where can I find and apply to hris consultant jobs?
You can find and apply to hris consultant jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your platform expertise and experience level, then apply directly to each position that fits.
