Most employers expect a bachelor's degree in human resources, business, or a related field, and professional certification such as SHRM-CP or PHR is strongly preferred by corporate and healthcare employers. Delaware's large concentration of financial and pharmaceutical companies means candidates with industry-specific HR experience, particularly in compensation or talent acquisition, have a clear advantage entering the market.

Which Delaware cities have the most human resources jobs?
Wilmington, Millsboro, and Newark account for the largest share of human resources openings in Delaware. Wilmington dominates because of its dense concentration of financial services firms, corporate legal entities, and regional healthcare systems, while Newark's proximity to the University of Delaware and several pharmaceutical campuses drives a secondary cluster of HR roles in biotech and research organizations.

About 43% of human resources openings tied to Delaware are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how much of the work, including employee relations advising, policy writing, and HRIS administration, can be done off-site.
