Industrial Technician Jobs in Massachusetts: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an industrial technician in Massachusetts?
Most industrial technician positions in Massachusetts require an associate degree or certificate from a technical or community college in a field like mechatronics, industrial electronics, or electromechanical technology. Programs at institutions like Quinsigamond Community College and Middlesex Community College are well-regarded by local employers. Massachusetts does not mandate a single state license for the role, but certifications from organizations like NIMS or OSHA training credentials strengthen candidacy significantly.
Which companies hire industrial technicians in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts industrial technician roles are posted by CoolSys, Altium Packaging, and Cornerstone Building Brands and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Massachusetts's dense concentration of defense contractors, medical device manufacturers, and precision manufacturing firms means steady, year-round openings across the state.
Which Massachusetts cities have the most industrial technician jobs?
Peabody, Dartmouth, and Massachusetts account for the highest concentration of industrial technician openings in Massachusetts. Boston anchors the market through its biotech and medical device corridors, Worcester draws on its strong advanced manufacturing base, and Lowell reflects the continued presence of defense and electronics production facilities that have operated in the Merrimack Valley for decades.
Are there remote industrial technician jobs in Massachusetts?
Yes, but they're rare. Industrial technician work is fundamentally hands-on, requiring on-site presence to operate, calibrate, and repair equipment. About 0% of industrial technician openings tied to Massachusetts are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, so most roles require full on-site availability. The portions most amenable to remote work are documentation, reporting, and certain technical support or training functions.
How can I get hired as an industrial technician in Massachusetts with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in or completing a certificate or associate program at a Massachusetts community college, then targeting companies that run structured apprenticeships or co-op programs. Large manufacturers like Raytheon and Thermo Fisher partner with local colleges for internship pipelines. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as facilities maintenance technician, production operator, or equipment room assistant are commonly considered. Earning a NIMS credential or completing an OSHA ten-hour course before applying gives a competitive edge.
