We are currently seeking an experienced, client-focused Tier 2 Project & Field Technical IT Engineer to join our team based out of our St. Charles, Illinois location.
In this multi-faceted role, you will lead complex IT initiatives, provide high-level on-site and remote technical support, manage infrastructure, handle service desk escalations, and partner with our sales team to deliver exceptional presales support. The ideal candidate brings extensive Managed Service Provider (MSP) background, exceptional technical troubleshooting capabilities, and a commitment to maintaining the highest standards of professional integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Project & Technical Leadership
- Project Execution: Serve as the technical lead on complex IT projects, migrations, and infrastructure deployments, ensuring projects are delivered on schedule and within scope.
- Infrastructure Management: Design, implement, and support enterprise-grade technologies, including advanced server architectures, virtualization platforms, backup and disaster recovery solutions, and core networking hardware (switches, routers, firewalls, and wireless systems).
- Escalation & Troubleshooting: Act as a high-level escalation point for complex technical issues, performing rigorous troubleshooting and root-cause analysis in diverse client environments.
- Client Advisory: Assess client infrastructure to identify performance gaps, security risks, and optimization opportunities, advising stakeholders on strategic technology upgrades.
- SLA & Documentation Management: Track, document, and resolve service tickets meticulously, ensuring complete adherence to established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).
Presales & Client Partnership
- Sales Collaboration: Partner closely with the sales team to evaluate existing and prospective client network environments, providing expert engineering insights and recommendations.
- Scope Development: Author technical scopes of work (SOWs) for hardware, software, and managed service proposals.
- On-Site Representation: Act as the primary technical point of contact for assigned on-site clients, cultivating long-term, trusted relationships and reviewing service coverage to guarantee alignment with business goals.
Team Mentorship & Operations
- Mentorship: Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and professional development support to fellow engineers on the technical services team.
- Resource Management: Balance multiple competing priorities and project timelines effectively, making optimal decisions regarding company resources and team schedules.
Qualifications & Requirements
Experience
- MSP Experience: Minimum of 3 years of hands-on experience working directly for a Managed Service Provider (MSP) or progressive technology solutions provider.
- Experience: Knowledge of computer networking, TCP/IP, LAN, VPN, firewall, DNS, Windows support, macOS, and operating systems.
- Ability: Troubleshoot computer hardware, software, and network equipment; familiarity with Active Directory management and GPOs.
- General IT Experience: Minimum of 5+ years of full-time experience in an IT service, systems administration, or technical support role.
- Core Technical Competencies:
- 3+ years of dedicated enterprise network support experience.
- 3+ years of dedicated server infrastructure support experience.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Microsoft Server certifications
- Professional-level systems, backup, security, or network certifications (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Security+, VMware VCP)
General Requirements
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for local client travel.
