IT Operations Manager Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become an it operations manager in Texas?
Most it operations managers in Texas begin with a bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, then build several years of hands-on experience in systems administration, network operations, or IT support. Texas has no state-issued license for this role, but employers consistently expect ITIL Foundation certification and familiarity with frameworks like COBIT. Moving up from a senior analyst or team lead position at a Texas enterprise or government agency is the most common path.
How much do IT operations managers make in Texas?
IT operations managers in Texas earn a median of about $103,230 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $46,190 for the lowest 10% to over $264,620 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it operations managers in Texas?
Employers hiring it operations managers in Texas right now include Google, Academy Sports + Outdoors, and Amazon, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of energy companies, major airlines, financial institutions, and large hospital systems means demand stays consistent across sectors well beyond pure technology firms.
Which Texas cities have the most it operations manager jobs?
Dallas, Houston, and Amarillo have the most it operations manager openings in Texas. Dallas-Fort Worth leads because of its dense cluster of corporate headquarters and regional data centers, Houston follows with large energy and healthcare employers, and Austin's growing tech sector and state government agencies drive steady demand there as well.
Are there remote it operations manager jobs in Texas?

About 6% of it operations manager openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, with hybrid arrangements more prevalent than fully remote. The functions most likely to be performed remotely are vendor coordination, ITSM oversight, and policy governance rather than hands-on infrastructure work.
How can I get hired as an it operations manager in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into an operations coordinator or IT team lead role after working two to four years in a systems administrator, helpdesk manager, or network analyst position at a Texas employer. Large Texas institutions such as state agencies, university systems, and hospital networks regularly promote from within and hire associate IT managers for people making the step up.
