IT Support Engineer Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it support engineer in Tennessee?
Most Tennessee employers expect at least an associate degree in information technology or a closely related field alongside a foundational certification such as CompTIA A+ or Network+. Tennessee has no state-issued license for this role, so industry credentials carry the most weight in hiring decisions. Candidates who pair coursework from Tennessee colleges with hands-on lab experience or a help desk internship typically move into full positions fastest.
How much do IT support engineers make in Tennessee?
IT support engineers in Tennessee earn a median of about $55,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,500 for the lowest 10% to over $80,780 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire it support engineers in Tennessee?
Employers hiring it support engineers in Tennessee right now include Amazon, MAA, and Forvia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's concentration of large healthcare systems, logistics firms, and federal research institutions means demand is spread across multiple industries rather than a single sector.
Which Tennessee cities have the most it support engineer jobs?
Nashville, Chattanooga, and Memphis hold the most it support engineer openings in Tennessee. Nashville's outsized share reflects its dense healthcare and financial technology ecosystem, while Memphis draws volume from logistics and distribution headquarters, and Knoxville benefits from federal research and university-affiliated employers in the region.
Are there remote it support engineer jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're limited, since many it support engineer duties require on-site hardware troubleshooting and hands-on device management. About 50% of it support engineer openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, which is below the average for purely desk-based tech roles. Cloud support, remote monitoring, and tier-one help desk functions are the sub-areas most likely to appear as fully remote positions.
How can I get hired as a it support engineer in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a help desk or desktop support associate role, which large Tennessee employers such as hospital systems and managed service providers regularly post as entry-level positions that do not require prior professional experience. Completing a CompTIA A+ certification before applying gives candidates a clear credential edge. Tennessee community colleges, including Nashville State and Pellissippi State, offer IT support programs that include internship placements with local employers, giving graduates a direct connection to hiring managers.
Where can I find and apply to it support engineer jobs in Tennessee?
You can find and apply to it support engineer jobs in Tennessee on Migrate Mate, which lists current Tennessee openings updated regularly. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the employer through the listing.
