IT Support Technician Jobs in Tennessee: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a it support technician in Tennessee?
Tennessee does not require a state-issued license to work as an it support technician, so the path runs through education and vendor-neutral certification. Most Tennessee employers expect at least a CompTIA A+ credential, which validates foundational hardware and software skills, alongside an associate degree from a Tennessee College of Applied Technology or a community college. Completing a TCAT program in computer information technology is one of the most direct routes into entry-level roles in the state.
Which companies hire it support technicians in Tennessee?
Employers hiring it support technicians in Tennessee right now include Amazon, MAA, and Forvia, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Tennessee's concentration of large healthcare networks, federal agencies like the Tennessee Valley Authority, and major logistics and manufacturing headquarters drives consistent demand for on-site and hybrid support roles throughout the state.
Which Tennessee cities have the most it support technician jobs?
Nashville, Chattanooga, and Memphis have the most it support technician openings in Tennessee. Nashville leads because of its dense concentration of healthcare systems, corporate headquarters, and state government agencies, while Memphis is driven by logistics giants and regional financial institutions, and Knoxville benefits from University of Tennessee system operations and Oak Ridge National Laboratory support contracts.
Are there remote it support technician jobs in Tennessee?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely desk-based roles because much of it support work involves hands-on hardware, on-site troubleshooting, and in-person end-user assistance. About 50% of it support technician openings tied to Tennessee are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, with remote positions most often covering tier-one help-desk and software support functions that do not require physical access to equipment.
How can I get hired as a it support technician in Tennessee with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a computer information technology program at a Tennessee College of Applied Technology, which pairs classroom instruction with hands-on lab time and connects graduates directly to regional employers. Large Tennessee healthcare systems like HCA Healthcare and Vanderbilt University Medical Center run IT associate programs and rotational support positions aimed at candidates without prior professional experience. Earning a CompTIA A+ certification before applying gives candidates a clear edge, and starting in a help-desk or desktop support associate role is the most common lateral move into a full technician position.
Where can I find and apply to it support technician jobs in Tennessee?
