Laboratory Jobs in Alabama: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a laboratory in Alabama?
To work as a clinical laboratory scientist or technician in Alabama, you must obtain licensure through the Alabama Board of Clinical Laboratory Personnel, which requires completing an accredited program in medical laboratory science or a related field and passing a nationally recognized certification exam such as those offered by ASCP or AMT. Technician-level roles typically require an associate degree, while scientist roles require a bachelor's degree. Industrial or research laboratory roles outside clinical settings may not require state licensure but often expect field-specific certifications.
Which companies hire laboratorys in Alabama?
Alabama laboratory roles are posted by Labcorp, UAB Medicine, and USA Health and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Alabama's concentration of large hospital systems, automotive manufacturers, and federal defense contractors in the Huntsville corridor means laboratory openings appear across both healthcare and industrial sectors throughout the year.
Which Alabama cities have the most laboratory jobs?
Birmingham, Mobile, and Huntsville are the Alabama cities with the most laboratory openings. Birmingham leads because of the UAB Health System and its affiliated hospitals and research centers, while Huntsville's defense and aerospace industry generates strong demand for environmental and materials laboratory roles, and Mobile's port-related manufacturing and healthcare infrastructure sustains steady clinical and industrial lab hiring.
Are there remote laboratory jobs in Alabama?
Yes, but they're rare. Most laboratory work requires physical presence to operate instruments, handle specimens, or maintain quality control on-site. About 0% of laboratory openings tied to Alabama are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are almost exclusively in laboratory data analysis, regulatory affairs, or remote review roles rather than bench or clinical work.
How can I get hired as a laboratory in Alabama with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying for a laboratory assistant or phlebotomy technician role at a large Alabama hospital system such as UAB Health System or DCH Health System, which regularly hire candidates without full laboratory experience and provide on-the-job training. Completing an NAACLS-accredited medical laboratory technician program at a community college like Jefferson State or Calhoun Community College gives you a credential that Alabama employers recognize. Earning an entry-level ASCP phlebotomy certification while still in school is the single strongest differentiator for candidates without prior lab employment.
Where can I find and apply to laboratory jobs in Alabama?
You can find and apply to laboratory jobs in Alabama on Migrate Mate, which lists current Alabama openings across clinical, research, and industrial settings. Find roles that fit your experience and credentials and apply directly to the employers posting them.
