Laboratory Manager Jobs in Mississippi: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a laboratory manager in Mississippi?
Most laboratory manager roles in Mississippi require at least a bachelor's degree in a life science, chemistry, or a related field, plus several years of bench or supervisory experience. Clinical laboratory directors or high-complexity testing supervisors may need to meet qualifications set by the Mississippi State Department of Health under CLIA regulations. Holding or pursuing a specialty certification such as MT, MLS, or a management credential through ASCP strengthens candidates significantly in the Mississippi market.
How much do laboratory managers make in Mississippi?
Laboratory managers in Mississippi earn a median of about $119,430 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $75,920 for the lowest 10% to over $185,540 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire laboratory managers in Mississippi?
Mississippi laboratory manager roles are posted by Singing River Health System, University of Mississippi Medical Center, and Memorial Hospital at Gulfport and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Large academic medical centers, state public health laboratories, and industrial manufacturers along the Gulf Coast are among the most consistent sources of openings.
Which Mississippi cities have the most laboratory manager jobs?
Jackson, Gulfport, and Pascagoula account for the largest share of laboratory manager openings in Mississippi. Jackson leads because of its concentration of hospital systems, the University of Mississippi Medical Center campus, and state government health agencies, while Hattiesburg and Biloxi draw demand from regional medical centers and the industrial and defense contractors active on the Gulf Coast.
Are there remote laboratory manager jobs in Mississippi?
Yes, but they're rare. About 7% of laboratory manager openings tied to Mississippi are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, reflecting how hands-on the role typically is. The portions of the work most likely to be done remotely are regulatory documentation, quality system audits, and vendor management rather than direct oversight of laboratory operations.
How can I get hired as a laboratory manager in Mississippi with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a lead technologist or laboratory supervisor role within a Mississippi hospital system or state public health lab before stepping up to full management. The University of Mississippi Medical Center and regional health systems like Merit Health periodically post senior technologist and shift-lead positions that function as direct pipelines to management. Earning an ASCP certification or completing a laboratory management certificate course while working in a bench role gives candidates a concrete edge when applying.
Where can I find and apply to laboratory manager jobs in Mississippi?
You can find and apply to laboratory manager jobs in Mississippi on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience level and specialty, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
