Position Summary
PLEASE NOTE: This position is for the UNM Gallup Branch, located in Gallup, NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, NM.
The University of New Mexico-Gallup invites applications for a Visiting Lecturer I in Cosmetology/Barbering. We are one of four branch community colleges of the University of New Mexico and serve approximately 2,500 students. Located in Gallup NM, approximately 138 miles west of Albuquerque, UNM-Gallup is situated in the Four Corners region and near the Navajo Nation, Zuni Pueblo and Hopi Reservation. The city of Gallup has a population of 22,000 and the surrounding areas provide an abundance of outdoor recreational activities, various museums and extraordinary cultural vibrancy, while maintaining a small-town feel.
UNM-Gallup serves a hugely diverse student population with 100+ full time and part-time faculty members. We are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission offering Associate degrees, selected Bachelor’s degrees, Career Technical Education certificate programs, and adult basic education (ABE/GED), workforce training and personal enrichment courses. UNM-Gallup serves multiple high school populations including McKinley Academy, Middle College High School and the Center for Career and Technical Education.
It is an exciting time to join our faculty as we are expanding our programs, engaging with our community, establishing multiple endowments and grant opportunities while hiring a substantial cohort of new faculty.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach a 30 CH course load per year in the area of Cosmetology/Barbering, participate in monthly Division meetings and execute other relevant duties as agreed upon in conjunction with the division chair in an annual faculty-chair agreement.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- New Mexico State Board of Barbers and Cosmetologists Cosmetology/Barber Instructor’s License or Provisional License
- Three years industry experience
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Demonstrated successful experience teaching cosmetology and/or barbering
- A demonstrated commitment to cultivate an understanding of the rich and varied cultures of New Mexico and to the success of the university's mission to serve local and global communities
