Manufacturing Jobs in South Dakota: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a manufacturing worker in South Dakota?
Most entry-level manufacturing positions in South Dakota require a high school diploma or equivalent and on-the-job training provided by the employer. For skilled trades roles, completing a registered apprenticeship through Lake Area Technical College or Southeast Technical College in Sioux Falls builds the hands-on credentials employers look for. Certifications in welding, CNC operation, or industrial maintenance through South Dakota technical colleges strengthen a candidate's profile considerably.
Which companies hire manufacturing workers in South Dakota?
South Dakota manufacturing roles are posted by AGI - Ag Growth International, AKG North American Operations, and Crenlo and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. South Dakota's food processing, agricultural equipment, and electronics sectors account for a large share of consistent year-round openings across the state.
Which South Dakota cities have the most manufacturing jobs?
Sioux Falls, Mitchell, and Canton have the most manufacturing openings in South Dakota. Sioux Falls leads because of its large food processing plants and medical device facilities, while Rapid City supports defense-adjacent manufacturing and specialized fabrication, and Aberdeen's agricultural equipment and electronics producers create steady demand for production and assembly workers throughout the year.
Are there remote manufacturing jobs in South Dakota?
Yes, but they're rare. Manufacturing work is predominantly hands-on and facility-based, so fully remote roles make up a small share of the market. About 17% of manufacturing openings tied to South Dakota are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions are almost always in quality systems, production planning, or supply chain coordination rather than the plant floor itself.
How can I get hired as a manufacturing worker in South Dakota with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying directly to food processing and assembly operations in Sioux Falls, where employers like John Morrell Food Group and Raven Industries regularly hire people with no prior manufacturing background and provide paid on-the-job training. General labor, warehouse associate, and production helper roles are the most common starting points. Completing a short CNC or welding certificate at Lake Area Technical College in Watertown gives candidates a measurable edge when moving into higher-skill positions.
Where can I find and apply to manufacturing jobs in South Dakota?
You can find and apply to manufacturing jobs in South Dakota on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that match your experience and location, and apply directly to each position that fits.
