Network Administrator Jobs in Indiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a network administrator in Indiana?
Indiana does not require a state-issued license to work as a network administrator, so the path runs through education and vendor certifications. Most Indiana employers expect at least an associate or bachelor's degree in information technology, computer science, or a related field, paired with certifications like CompTIA Network+ or Cisco's CCNA. Many candidates start in helpdesk or IT support roles at Indiana universities, hospital systems, or manufacturers before moving into dedicated network administrator positions.
How much do network administrators make in Indiana?
Network administrators in Indiana earn a median of about $84,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $58,630 for the lowest 10% to over $128,670 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire network administrators in Indiana?
Indiana network administrator roles are posted by Oak Grove Technologies, Jobot, and Tyto Athene and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Indiana's concentration of large healthcare networks, research universities, and advanced manufacturing firms means steady, recurring demand rather than boom-and-bust hiring cycles.
Which Indiana cities have the most network administrator jobs?
Butlerville, Jasper, and Elkhart have the most network administrator openings in Indiana right now. Indianapolis dominates because of its density of hospital systems, insurance companies, and state government IT agencies, while Fort Wayne and South Bend draw from regional manufacturers and healthcare employers that maintain their own on-site network infrastructure.
Are there remote network administrator jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they are less common than in purely desk-based IT roles because network administration often requires physical access to hardware, data centers, and on-site infrastructure. About 0% of network administrator openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with remote work more likely for monitoring, documentation, and cloud management tasks than for hands-on cabling or equipment installation.
How can I get hired as a network administrator in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing an IT support or helpdesk role at a large Indiana employer, then moving laterally into network administration once you have internal credibility and hands-on exposure to the organization's infrastructure. Indiana University Health, Purdue University, and large manufacturers like Salesforce or Cummins regularly hire IT support associates who can grow into network roles. Earning CompTIA Network+ before applying signals readiness and gives your application an edge even without direct network admin experience.
