Licensure is issued by the Indiana Professional Licensing Agency through its State Board of Nursing. Most Indiana hospital systems require at least an associate degree in nursing, and many prefer or require a bachelor of science in nursing for clinical and specialty positions.
How much do nursings make in Indiana?
Nursings in Indiana earn a median of about $38,330 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $35,390 for the lowest 10% to over $46,890 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire nursings in Indiana?

Indiana's largest health systems, including IU Health and Ascension St. Vincent, post consistently across specialties and maintain robust recruiting pipelines throughout the year.
Which Indiana cities have the most nursing jobs?
Indianapolis, Anderson, and Evansville have the most nursing openings in Indiana. Indianapolis drives the largest share of listings as the state's primary healthcare hub, anchored by major academic medical centers and regional hospital networks, while Fort Wayne and Evansville support substantial nursing markets through their own established health systems and growing outpatient clinic networks.
Are there remote nursing jobs in Indiana?
Yes, but they're rare. About 7% of nursing openings tied to Indiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, reflecting the hands-on nature of most clinical roles. The nursing positions most likely to include remote components are telephonic case management, utilization review, and nurse educator or quality assurance roles where direct patient contact is not required.
How can I get hired as a nursing in Indiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is a new graduate residency program, which IU Health, Ascension St. Vincent, and Eskenazi Health all offer to nurses within their first year of licensure. These structured programs place new graduates into medical-surgical or step-down units before transitioning to specialty areas. Candidates who complete clinical rotations at Indiana hospitals and hold an active Indiana nursing license are consistently prioritized, and certifications such as BLS and ACLS strengthen an application before the first interview.
