Job Description: Traveling Commissioning Engineer (Oil & Gas)

Position Summary

[AMRobotics LLC is seeking a highly skilled and safety-conscious Traveling Commissioning Engineer to join our field operations team. In this role, you will be the critical link between the construction phase and the final handover of oil and gas facilities. You will travel to project sites across the country to oversee the inspection, testing, startup, and performance verification of complex equipment and systems. The ideal candidate is a "road warrior" with deep technical expertise in the oil and gas sector who thrives in dynamic field environments and is committed to technical integrity and strict safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

• System Testing & Verification: Conduct system walk-downs, pre-commissioning, and commissioning activities for mechanical, electrical, and control systems (including PLCs, SCADA, valves, pumps, and flow metering).
• Startup Operations: Lead the safe and systematic startup of process units, pipelines, compressor stations, or refinery equipment, ensuring they operate according to design specifications and regulatory requirements.
• Troubleshooting: Identify, diagnose, and resolve mechanical, electrical, and process control issues in the field to prevent delays during the startup phase.
• Documentation & Reporting: Prepare detailed commissioning dossiers, test reports, and handover documentation. Redline P&IDs and electrical schematics to reflect as-built field conditions.
• Safety Leadership: Ensure the safe execution of all commissioning activities through strict adherence to permit-to-work procedures, Lock-Out/Tag-Out (LOTO), and environmental health and safety (EHS) governance.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate daily activities with construction managers, vendors, subcontractors, and client operations teams to ensure a seamless transition from construction to active operation.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Chemical Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent combination of technical vocational training and extensive field experience).
• Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of hands-on commissioning, maintenance, or field service experience specifically within the oil, gas, or petrochemical industries.
• Technical Skills:
• Strong working knowledge of O&G instrumentation, control systems, and PLCs.
• Familiarity with industry-standard rotating equipment (turbines, compressors, pumps) and process systems.
• Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings (P&IDs, loop diagrams, electrical schematics).
• Soft Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities, strong technical writing skills, and the capacity to work independently or lead small teams in high-pressure environments.

Work Environment & Travel Demands

• Nationwide Travel: This position requires up to 100% domestic travel. You will be deployed to various client sites across the nation, often for extended rotations (e.g., 4-12 weeks per assignment).
• Schedule Flexibility: Must be willing to work extended hours, weekends, and night shifts as dictated by critical project phases and startup schedules.
• Physical Requirements: Ability to work in rugged field conditions, varying weather environments, and active construction sites. Must be able to climb ladders, navigate scaffolding, and wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Pay: $40.00 - $55.00 per hour

Work Location: On the road
