Operations Director Jobs in Houston: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a operations director job in Houston?
Focus your search on Houston's dominant hiring sectors: energy and oilfield services, healthcare systems anchored around the Texas Medical Center, and logistics and distribution tied to the Port of Houston. Roles concentrate in the Energy Corridor, Greenway Plaza, and downtown. Candidates who can show experience managing multi-site operations, vendor contracts, or regulated environments gain a clear edge in this market.
Which companies hire operations directors in Houston?
Houston operations director roles are posted by BNY, Harris Health, and University of Houston and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Houston's hiring mix leans heavily toward large integrated energy companies, major hospital systems, and regional distribution and supply chain operators.
Are there remote operations director jobs in Houston?
Yes, though it depends on the function. Operations director roles that are heavily hands-on, plant-based, or tied to physical facilities are rarely remote, while those focused on analytics, process improvement, or multi-site oversight can be hybrid. About 42% of operations director openings tied to Houston are remote or hybrid as of August 2026. The most remote-compatible work in Houston tends to come from corporate shared-services and supply chain strategy roles.
How can I get a operations director job in Houston with little or no experience?
The most realistic path in Houston is moving up from an operations manager or senior coordinator role within energy services, healthcare, or logistics companies that promote internally. Houston's large hospital networks and port-connected distribution firms regularly hire operations supervisors who transition into director-level roles after demonstrating P&L ownership or team leadership. Building familiarity with ERP systems and compliance frameworks used in regulated Houston industries strengthens your candidacy significantly.
