Operations Technician Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a operations technician in Texas?
Most operations technicians in Texas enter the field through an Associate of Applied Science in Process Technology, offered at community colleges including San Jacinto College, Lee College, and Alvin Community College along the Gulf Coast. Texas does not require a state-issued license for most general operations technician roles, but completing an accredited process technology program and earning a HAZWOPER certification strengthens candidacy significantly with industrial employers.
Which companies hire operations technicians in Texas?
Employers hiring operations technicians in Texas right now include Summit Fire & Security, Sunbelt Rentals, and Goodyear, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of refineries, chemical plants, and midstream pipeline infrastructure along the Gulf Coast and Permian Basin means large industrial operators maintain ongoing hiring across multiple sites year-round.
Which Texas cities have the most operations technician jobs?
Houston, Austin, and Dallas have the most operations technician openings in Texas. Houston dominates due to its dense cluster of refineries, petrochemical facilities, and energy company headquarters, while San Antonio draws on its manufacturing base and utility sector, and Midland serves as the operational hub for Permian Basin oil and gas activity.
Are there remote operations technician jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Operations technician work is predominantly hands-on and site-specific, requiring direct monitoring of equipment, processes, and instrumentation that cannot be performed remotely. About 5% of operations technician openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to involve technical coordination, reporting, or scheduling functions rather than field or plant floor duties.
How can I get hired as a operations technician in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is completing a process technology associate degree at a Gulf Coast community college, then applying to operator trainee or production technician apprentice programs that companies like Valero, LyondellBasell, and ExxonMobil run at their Texas refineries and chemical plants. Candidates coming from adjacent roles such as maintenance helper, warehouse technician, or utility operator at an industrial facility are frequently considered, and a HAZWOPER certification earned before applying gives an immediate edge over other entry-level applicants.
Where can I find and apply to operations technician jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to operations technician jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across energy, manufacturing, and industrial sectors. Search the listings, find roles that match your experience and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
