Job Title: Facility Technician

Reports to: Operations Manager

Employment type: Seasonal / Per Diem

Estimated Pay Range: $22.50-$28.50, plus eligible stipends, shift bonuses, and end-of-season bonuses.

Start Date & Schedule: Preseason training includes up to 5 hours of virtual training, an on-site orientation and safety training. In-season work is weather-dependent, with no traditional weekly schedule—we work when it snows and often for several days following a storm. Hours vary based on storm activity, operational needs, and availability, with shifts of up to 12 hours per day and overtime as needed.

Mileage reimbursement: Available for team members traveling more than 20 miles to the worksite, with reimbursement based on travel distance. During major winter events, overnight accommodations may also be provided. These stays are arranged as needed and typically last 2–6 days.

Position Overview:

At JMC, our work goes beyond clearing snow—we remove dangerous snow and ice buildup from the tops of tractor-trailers before those trailers return to the road, using specialized equipment to help reduce the risk of snow and ice coming off moving trailers and creating hazards for other motorists.

As a Facility Technician, you will work at one location which is a specific distribution center nearest to you. Working as part of a team, you’ll perform hands-on snow and ice removal services on an average of approximately 100 trailers per day, helping ensure services are completed safely, efficiently, and to JMC’s standards.

Your responsibilities will include operating a scraper system, directing traffic through the service area, documenting completed services, and performing other hands-on snow and ice removal tasks. When ice is present, team members will work from a secured platform and use a long-handled mallet to physically break up ice buildup on the tops of tractor-trailers so the scraper system can remove it. This can be labor-intensive work requiring repeated physical effort; however, team members work together and rotate responsibilities throughout the service to help distribute the physical demands of the job. Depending on your experience and qualifications, you may also have the opportunity to operate snowplows and/or front-wheel loaders.

We’re looking for team members with various skill levels and experience, including:

• Front-Wheel Loader Operators

Key Responsibilities:

You’ll work as part of a team, rotating responsibilities throughout the service to safely and efficiently remove snow and ice to help keep the roads safe:

• Operate Scraper System: Work outside on a platform operating a snow scraper machine.
• Break Up Ice: When ice is present, work from a secured platform and use a long-handled mallet to physically break up ice buildup on the tops of tractor-trailers, allowing the scraper system to remove it.
• Direct Traffic Flow: Guide drivers as they move through the scraper system.
• Snowplow Operation (for qualified operators): Operate pick-up truck with V-Blade snowplow to remove snow from around the scraper systems (only for qualified snowplow operators).
• Heavy Equipment Operation: For qualified operators, use front-wheel loaders with TrucBrush attachments or buckets to safely and efficiently remove snow and ice from tractor trailers.
• Document Service: Keep accurate records for each trailer serviced, including taking photos and filling out required paperwork.
• Responsive Communication: Because our work is weather-dependent and schedules can change quickly, timely and responsive communication is essential—both during scheduled work hours and while off duty when coordinating upcoming work.
• Reliability: Exceptional availability, attendance, and punctuality are critical.

Position-Specific Qualifications & Responsibilities:

Facility Technician - Core Responsibilities for All Team Members

• Physical Requirements: Ability to lift at least 40 lbs and perform the physical demands of the job in cold weather conditions (snow, etc.).
• Reliability: Exceptional availability, attendance, and punctuality are a must.
• Transportation: A valid driver's license and reliable transportation to the job site — team members must be able to drive themselves due to on-site security requirements and the need to park near service equipment.
• Communication & Teamwork: Ability to communicate effectively and work collaboratively with supervisors, coworkers, customers, and other personnel.
• Positive Attitude: Ability to maintain a positive and calm demeanor in all situations.
• Attention to Detail: Strong accuracy in documentation, service records, and operational checks completed through our digital platform.
• Safety First: A commitment to ensuring safety is prioritized above all else.

Snowplow Operator

All Facility Technician qualifications are required along with:

• Age Requirement: Must be 21 years or older (required to operate fleet vehicles).
• Driving Record: A clean driving record verified by the DMV.
• Experience: At least 3 years of snowplow operation experience.
• Equipment Maintenance: Monitor the condition of equipment and report any damage or maintenance needs.
• Inspection: Complete necessary equipment inspection checklists before and after use.

Front-Wheel Loader Operator

All Facility Technician and Snowplow Operator qualifications are required along with:

• Experience: Some loader operation experience necessary.
• Safety Awareness: Maintain constant awareness of other vehicles and pedestrians in the work area.
• Maintenance Checks: Regularly inspect and maintain equipment to ensure its safe and efficient operation.
