Service Tech Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a service tech in Texas?
Most service tech roles in Texas require completing a technical or vocational program in a relevant field such as HVAC, industrial maintenance, or electronics, followed by hands-on field experience. HVAC technicians must hold a license issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation. Other specialties may require EPA Section 608 certification for refrigerant handling. Community colleges across Texas, including those in the Dallas and Houston metro areas, offer programs that lead directly into entry-level positions.
Which companies hire service techs in Texas?
Employers hiring service techs in Texas right now include CVS Health, Walgreens, and University Health, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's large industrial base and commercial construction activity keep demand from major equipment manufacturers, energy companies, and facility services firms consistently high throughout the year.
Which Texas cities have the most service tech jobs?
Houston, Dallas, and Austin have the most service tech openings in Texas right now. Houston's energy and petrochemical industry drives the largest concentration of industrial and instrumentation techs, while Dallas and San Antonio support strong commercial HVAC and facilities maintenance demand tied to their rapidly expanding commercial real estate and manufacturing sectors.
Are there remote service tech jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Service tech work is predominantly hands-on and site-based, so most roles require a physical presence at customer locations, industrial facilities, or job sites. About 6% of service tech openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be technical support or remote diagnostics roles rather than traditional field positions.
How can I get hired as a service tech in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is enrolling in a trade or technical program at a Texas community college, such as those offered through Houston Community College or San Antonio College, and targeting apprentice or helper roles with HVAC contractors or industrial service companies. Large Texas employers in facilities management and equipment services regularly hire entry-level technician trainees and service assistants. Earning an EPA Section 608 certification before applying gives candidates a concrete edge over other applicants without field experience.
Where can I find and apply to service tech jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to service tech jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers actively hiring across the state. Search the listings for roles that match your specialty and experience level, then apply directly to the ones that fit.
