Tips for Your Php Developer Job Search
Tailor your resume to each stack
Php roles vary widely between Laravel shops, WordPress agencies, and legacy codebases. Rewrite your resume's skills and project sections to match the framework and tooling each employer actually lists, not just generic php experience.
Show version fluency on your resume
Many employers distinguish between PHP 7 and PHP 8 candidates. Call out which versions you've shipped production code in, and highlight any migration work you've done between major versions, since that signals real-world depth.
Build a portfolio with real database work
Hiring managers for php developer roles want to see query optimization, schema design, or ORM usage alongside your front-end output. Include at least one project where the database layer is documented, not just the UI.
Apply early to roles that fit
Migrate Mate lists php developer openings from across the United States in one place, so you can find roles that match and apply directly to each listing.
Filter by framework to avoid poor-fit applications
Applying to every php role wastes time. Target openings that name the framework you know best, whether Laravel, Symfony, or WordPress, so your application is immediately relevant and your interview preparation stays focused.
Prepare a concrete debugging story for interviews
Php developer interviews almost always include a systems or debugging scenario. Prepare one real example where you diagnosed a performance issue, a memory leak, or a security vulnerability in a PHP application and resolved it step by step.
Php Developer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
Which companies are hiring the most php developers?
The companies hiring the most php developers right now include TIAG, ARTIN, and LeverX, with the largest share of openings in New Jersey, Virginia, and California, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Demand is strongest at agencies, e-commerce platforms, and mid-size SaaS companies running PHP-based backends.
How many php developer jobs are remote?
About 50% of php developer openings are fully remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting strong employer comfort with distributed backend teams. Roles focused on API development, plugin or theme work for WordPress, and Laravel application maintenance tend to be the most remote-friendly within the php developer category.
How do you become a php developer?
Start by learning PHP fundamentals, including syntax, functions, and object-oriented programming, through structured courses or self-study. Then pick one major framework, Laravel is the most in-demand, and build a project using it. Add database skills with MySQL, practice building and consuming REST APIs, and put finished projects in a public repository so employers can review your actual code.
Can you get hired as a php developer with little experience?
Yes, entry-level php developer roles exist, particularly at agencies and WordPress-focused shops that need developers for client sites and plugin customization. Employers at that level look for demonstrated ability over years of experience, so a portfolio with two or three complete projects, clean code, and documented problem-solving carries more weight than credentials alone.
What does the php developer interview process look like?
Most php developer interviews include an initial recruiter or hiring manager screen, a technical assessment involving a coding challenge or take-home project, and a final round with the engineering team. The technical stage usually tests PHP fundamentals, framework knowledge, database querying, and sometimes a debugging or code-review exercise on an existing snippet.
Where can I find and apply to php developer jobs?
You can find and apply to php developer jobs on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from companies across the United States. Search the listings to find roles that match your experience and framework background, then apply directly to each one that fits.
