Physician Assistant Jobs in Idaho: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physician assistant in Idaho?
You must hold an active physician assistant license from the Idaho State Board of Medicine to practice in Idaho. Licensure requires graduation from an ARC-PA accredited program and a passing score on the PANCE, the national certification exam administered by the NCCPA. Idaho also requires physician assistants to practice with a supervising physician under a written agreement filed with the Board. Applications are submitted directly through the Idaho State Board of Medicine.
How much do physician assistants make in Idaho?
Physician assistants in Idaho earn a median of about $133,790 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $100,590 for the lowest 10% to over $160,120 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire physician assistants in Idaho?
Idaho physician assistant roles are posted by Portneuf Medical Center, US Department of Veterans Affairs, and Ada County and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of October 2026. St. Luke's Health System and Saint Alphonsus Regional Medical Center are among the most consistent large-system hirers, with openings in both urban Boise facilities and rural critical access clinics throughout the state.
Which Idaho cities have the most physician assistant jobs?
Boise, Pocatello, and Idaho Falls are the Idaho cities with the most physician assistant openings. Boise dominates because it is home to the state's two largest health systems and a growing network of specialty and urgent care practices, while Idaho Falls and Pocatello draw openings through regional medical centers that serve large surrounding rural populations with limited local provider access.
Are there remote physician assistant jobs in Idaho?
Yes, but they're rare. About 30% of physician assistant openings tied to Idaho are remote or hybrid as of October 2026, reflecting the hands-on clinical nature of the role. The exceptions are telehealth positions focused on behavioral health, chronic disease management, and post-visit follow-up care, which represent the most common remote work available to Idaho-based physician assistants.
How can I get hired as a physician assistant in Idaho with little or no experience?
New graduates have the best entry point through postgraduate residency programs, with St. Luke's Health System running one of the few structured PA residencies in Idaho focused on primary and urgent care. Applying to critical access hospitals in rural communities such as Grangeville, Weiser, or McCall is another realistic path, as these facilities face persistent staffing shortages and actively recruit new graduates. Completing Idaho clinical rotations during your training, securing your supervising physician agreement early, and holding current NCCPA certification at the time of application all strengthen your candidacy significantly.
Where can I find and apply to physician assistant jobs in Idaho?
You can find and apply to physician assistant jobs in Idaho on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings from employers across the state. Search for roles that fit your specialty and experience level, then apply directly to the positions that match.
