Physician Jobs in Louisiana: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a physician in Louisiana?
You must hold an MD or DO degree, complete an accredited residency program, and obtain a license from the Louisiana State Board of Medical Examiners, which requires passing the USMLE or COMLEX series. Board certification in your specialty strengthens your application. Louisiana also requires registration with the state's Prescription Monitoring Program if you will prescribe controlled substances.
Which companies hire physicians in Louisiana?
Employers hiring physicians in Louisiana right now include CHRISTUS Health, Ochsner Health, and TeamHealth, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Louisiana's largest health systems, academic medical centers, and federally qualified health centers account for the bulk of ongoing openings across the state.
Which Louisiana cities have the most physician jobs?
Shreveport, Alexandria, and New Orleans account for the most physician openings in Louisiana. New Orleans drives volume through its large academic medical systems and specialty hospitals, Baton Rouge through its growing network of regional health campuses, and Shreveport through its anchor role as the major medical hub for northwest Louisiana and neighboring states.
Are there remote physician jobs in Louisiana?
Yes, but they're rare. Clinical physician work requires in-person patient care, so fully remote positions are limited. About 0% of physician openings tied to Louisiana are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to be in telemedicine, utilization review, or physician advisory roles rather than direct clinical practice.
How can I get hired as a physician in Louisiana with little or no experience?
The most realistic path for physicians early in their careers is applying through residency or fellowship programs affiliated with Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center or Tulane School of Medicine, both of which offer structured pathways into employed positions after training. New graduates should target employed physician roles at federally qualified health centers and rural health clinics, which often prioritize candidates willing to serve underserved areas. A Louisiana medical license and board eligibility are the credentials that open most doors at this stage.
Where can I find and apply to physician jobs in Louisiana?
You can find and apply to physician jobs in Louisiana on Migrate Mate, which lists current Louisiana openings updated regularly. Search the listings by location or specialty, find roles that fit your background and training, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
