Postdoctoral Associate Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a postdoctoral associate in Texas?
Becoming a postdoctoral associate in Texas requires a completed doctoral degree in a relevant discipline, as the role is a transitional research appointment rather than a licensed profession with a state-issued credential. Texas institutions typically recruit through departmental postings and research-network referrals. Candidates strengthen their applications by building a publication record during their PhD, securing a faculty mentor whose work aligns with their own, and applying directly to research programs at Texas universities and medical centers.
Which companies hire postdoctoral associates in Texas?
Employers hiring postdoctoral associates in Texas right now include Baylor College of Medicine, Rice University, and Texas A&M University, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of academic medical centers, federally funded national laboratories, and life sciences companies makes it one of the more diverse states for postdoctoral hiring outside traditional university settings.
Which Texas cities have the most postdoctoral associate jobs?
Houston, College Station, and Denton account for the most postdoctoral associate openings in Texas. Houston leads because of its dense cluster of medical institutions anchored by the Texas Medical Center, while Austin's growth in technology and life sciences research drives demand there, and Dallas benefits from UT Southwestern and a growing number of biotech and pharmaceutical research operations.
Are there remote postdoctoral associate jobs in Texas?
Yes, but they're rare. Postdoctoral research is largely hands-on and lab- or clinic-based, making full remote arrangements uncommon. About 0% of postdoctoral associate openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those tend to be concentrated in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science, and theoretical research where the work does not require physical lab access.
How can I get hired as a postdoctoral associate in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying during the final year of your doctoral program, when Texas research institutions actively recruit candidates before dissertation defense. MD Anderson, UT Southwestern, and Texas A&M run structured postdoctoral training programs with defined onboarding for incoming researchers. Candidates without prior postdoc experience can also move laterally from research scientist or graduate research assistant roles. A strong publication record, even one first-author paper, and a well-matched faculty sponsor give candidates a meaningful edge.
Where can I find and apply to postdoctoral associate jobs in Texas?
You can find and apply to postdoctoral associate jobs in Texas on Migrate Mate, which lists current Texas openings across research institutions, medical centers, and private employers. Find roles that fit your background and apply directly to the ones that match.
